Looks like 10 minutes (or maybe a bit longer) at 20C would be a good starting place, take a look at the long list of films tested.

Dear friends,
I've discovered this thread some time ago and am in the process of reading it through and I've already decided to try the Double-X out. The problem is, I am somehow unable to get hold of it - european resellers seem not to respond, one US seller wanted as a postage fee more than 1500ft worth..
Could anyone help me how to get some? I would prefer 100ft short-ends, but will take also larger cans.

P.S.: If anyone would be so kind as to share one or two 100ft short end(s) with me (I'd gladly pay for the film as well as the regular shipping costs), I'd be very grateful...

5231 is also discussed in this thread. I have a 400 foot can of it myself, need to get out and shoot some more of it. Sadly it has been discontinued by Kodak. Yes the results are stunning, particularly the midtones. Great retro film.

Pete Hopkins at That's A Wrap is a very accommodating guy. He is just down the road from me and the first time I approached him for 5222 he thought I was winding him up or bloody mad!

When he realised I was serious and mentioned that other still photographers would be interested in buying he was fascinated.

He let me have my first 400ft can on approval for 14 days and if I was happy then I could pay. Not many like that in business these days.
 
I just got a call from Pete at That's a Wrap about the 5222 - all the short ends at the special price have gone. They now only have 1000ft rolls at about £99 each, and be aware that it is about 3 years out of date. New 400ft rolls of 5222 are still available, but more expensive at nearly £90 each.

If you want to try something slightly different, they have 400ft rolls of 5231 at £35 a go - simlar B&W neg but only 64 ASA. I'm going to try one and see. EDIT - this is effectively PLUS-X

If anyone wants to share 1000ft of 5222, please let me know.

Now that's a bad news - just as I was going to order one.. If you'd be willing to send them over the channel, I wouldn't mind sharing few hudred feet... PM me if possible.

Yes, that's the one - great results using D76 1+1

I'm sure they will ship it to Europe, don't know about the x-ray thing though. It is in a metal canister, so some protection from the rays, maybe? I would ask them, they are very helpful
 
Very impressive Rodinal shot. How is the grain? Did you agitate during development? I've developed lots of ISO 100 film with 1:50 Rodinal for 30 minutes with 2 agitations one at the start and one at 15 minutes. That has been very successful for me.

Trying to provoke the excellent Nokton 40mm f1.4 SC into some bad behaviour. Shot on 5222 of course, Ilford Ilfotec DDX on M2.

I did, and they answered shortly after that they do not control the shipping process, so they are unable to do anything for me there. I would have expected that they at least could make sure that a label indicating X-ray sensitive content would be placed on the parcel. 🙁
I have written to Silverprint, also in the UK, and asked the same question. Awaiting the answer from them.
EDIT: Same answer from Silverprint.

Meanwhile, I have finally found a few sources for bulk film in Denmark, and not much more expensive than the UK sources. The price on the re-labeled Fuji film at Firstcall was attractive, but since I know that some shipment handlers and customs send shipments through X-ray scanners I won´t take the risk if they cannot tell me that they at least try to avoid that.

I need to try Ilford DDX with 5222 next. I like the "look" overall and the quality of the grain structure that I see here.

I inverted twice gently in the first min and once in the mid of 11 min. These are the least grainy I've got so far, though I like grain.

I've been busy today in the darkroom. First I opened a shortend can of 5222 and spooled it onto a plastic Kodak 100' core, to load into my bulk loader. Ended up rolling the diameter a bit too big to fit into the roller (but it fits is a metal can), so I pulled out five Kodak Snap-Caps and loaded with the "TomA method" five rolls. Now the 100' roll fits into my bulk loader, and I can proceed with things. I've been hitting up my local Minilab and now have a couple of hundred disgarded film cartridges from Kodak and Fuji, which work great with bulk loader and scotch tape. Use tha cartridge once and throw it away.

Also mixed up a liter of ADOX Borax Replenisher, so I can continue on with that. And loaded some 70mm bulk Kodak Aero Recon Film onto a developing reel, so I can test that stuff. Getting my Canon S9000 and S900 Photo printers unclogged and going good is also taking up some time. The digital prints I've made so far from XX and XXX negatives look really good from this. I'm starting to like my new Minolta scanner.

Beutler and Ilford DDX are still waiting to be tested with XX and XXX, won't be long.
