in my search for a 35 mm lens, i have come across various listings that say that the lens is coded with ....

as far as my understanding goes, i think coding was necessary for digital RFs to prevent vignetting etc.

my Qs are: if a lens is coded, does it have any effect on film Ms? does it alter the photographs taken with it on film? if i want to put such a lens for sale in the future, will the coding depreciate its resale value?

sorry for the ignorance, but didn't find specific answers online.

thx,
dan.

No effect on film Ms.
Actually I can not tell the difference between coded and uncoded lens on my M8.
The prices of Coded lens are higher then uncoded ones. around $100 or so..

Depends on the focal length. As I understand, 28mm and up is no difference between coded and not. Wider than 28mm, it makes a difference.

Anyone confirm?

The coding will have no effect on Film M's -- there's no sensor in the mount to pick up the coding. The 6-bit coded is strictly there for the m8/m8.2/m9.

The higher resale value is to reflect the cost invested in coding the lens, originally.
