I notice that when other people post photos, they show up as full 600 pixels wide or high in the thread. However, when I post them, they show up as thumbnails. How can I make them show up full size in the thread?

Yeah, I had it too.
I fixed it by loading the photo in Flickr, then getting the "location" of the full size photo, then loading that url.

that's encouraging because I tried just that and the location came up as 'invalid' file or suchlike, I'll look at Flickr again next time and post the result.

If you're talking about the case where a photo shows up as a thumbnail attachment AND full size in the post, here's the way I do it:
Attach the photo with the Manage Attachments button.
Then view the photo full size and copy the exact image URL.
Paste this in to your message with the appropriate img tags.
Try it.
One gotcha is that some forums don't seem to like the posting of in-line images.

You need to put a URL pointing to the actual image, i.e., something that ends with ".jpg", between a pair of IMG tags. There's an icon to "Insert Image" in the advanced message composition mode. There's supposed to be one displayed, I believe, above the "Quick Reply" box, but sometimes it isn't there.
A lot of people grab URL's from images they've posted on Flickr, Picasa or elsewhere. I've also used DMR's method. That eats a bit of space on the RFF servers.

Funny thing is, I had a post with a whole listing of actions ready, which involved using the advanced-window's 'Image' button.
But, when going into advanced mode on this thread, I do not see that button...

Maybe it's impossible to attach images to posts in certain forums, like the Provide your Feedback forum? Mods?

how to go about
how to go about
I'll list the actions I usually perform anyway. Here goes.
When saving your post, both the thumbnail and the full-sized image are visible in the post.
Now go find yourself a thread to try this in
Enjoy!

- Switch to Advanced mode for replying to a thread.
- Click the paperclip button.
- Upload your file as an attachment (the thumbnail is the result).
- Once uploaded, the attachment is listed as a link in the upload window.
- Click that link. The attachment will open in a new window.
- Copy the address of the attachment. Then return to original posting.
- In original posting, click the 'Image' button.
- Paste the attachment address there.

Maybe this will work from inside your first url above? I did it by copying only the http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4100/4894799307_63a35666f9.jpg from the first url, then went to it to confirm it was accessible. Then I went to manage images and pasted the url in and told it to upload it. So I would guess getting only the part with the .jpg as mentioned by someone above and using post attachment will get you something. You probably would want to use a larger version than what you had in the url. Of course, it is only a thumbnail. To get the full photo in, has been hit or miss for me.

Chris, read Romain's post at the top of this thread. Have an image on Flickr displayed in another browser window when you read it, so you see the "Action" and "Share This" buttons. Notice that, in this instance you do not need to use the IMG tags.
if you use that method, the image becomes a link pointing back to your Flickr page. And a little caption is added underneath, although you can edit it out of the copied text.
If you don't want your image to act as a link back to Flickr, copy out only the URL pointing to the image. It will end with "jpg" and begin with "http://farm?.static.flickr.com...", where "?" is a number. Use the "Insert Image" icon to paste that URL into your post. Be aware that Flickr has changed its Terms of Service to require that Flickr images displayed on other sites link back to Flickr.

I've done exactly the same with Flickr images. Keep in mind that Flickr is very complex and has many quirks, plus they seem to be changing things around lately, so YMMV.
Here's the way I've done it.
1. Post the image on Flickr, making sure it's OK for public viewing and downloading.
2. View the image, and REALLY view the image itself, if you know what I mean. Get to where the URL location bar shows only the image itself, not some kind of Flickr container which holds the image.
3. Copy-paste that URL into the message with the appropriate img tags.
That has always worked for me.
