Reading any of the equipment-oriented threads is just a recipe for GAS. Put a decent lens in the hands of a good photographer - and boom, everyone wants that lens.

It's really true that good photographs sell lenses, but straight up discussion is also a factor. It is interesting to witness the vogue (and prices!) of certain items wax and wane seemingly based solely on comments on the forums. Much like the stock market - it's emotional as much as anything.

I don't mind the GAS problems caused by RFF. What I do mind is the lack of more in depth discussions of the various disciplines of photography. Where do you go for that? And don't say APUG.

The secret is to be really cheap. There is only so much interesting cheap stuff out there before it starts to get redundant. 😉

If your personality doesn't let you spend more than $100 at a time on camera gear, well, that limits options enough that the high end gear isn't even an option.

Or stick with Ms with limited frame lines. My MP and M2 are lacking 75mm and 135mm lines so I don't even get excited about that new CV 75/1.7. 😀

I've only been back lurking on the boards for a week or two and I've developed some funny gas pangs. Been thinking about how nice a 90/2 might be to try to figure out, saw that nifty zeiss 35/2.8 and thought it would be a lot of fun for shooting outdoors. That and a collapsable 50, something real clean.

Before all this I was really content with what I had, hah! Go figure.

GAS goes away, Carl, when you run out of money. 😱

Not that being poor stopped me from recently buying a Rolleiflex - but at least I'm now so poor that I'll barely be able to afford anything for the next week or two until I get paid.

Oh yeah, I can't actually afford any gear right now. I think I have enough self control at this point to not spend money I don't have on camera gear.

Doesn't mean I can't think about it. 😎

I have decided to force myself to go the extreme other route doing one body one lens for the next couple weeks. Why not?
I am actually going to cheat and use a different lens on my film body, but only carry one at a time.

It will be the M9 and Zeiss Sonnar,
On the MP I will use the 28 cron.

If anything, RFF has had the opposite effect on me: seeing people get excited over lenses I've no desire to try, and cameras I tried years ago and found indifferent.

There's less and less that I want. In my 20s I was always trying new (old) stuff, but it's slowed down a lot over the decades. Nowadays there has to be a REALLY CONVINCING reason to want to try anything new, and I've very little desire to try old stuff because mostly, I've already tried it and been more or less unimpressed. Even the good old stuff like the Konica SIII is not as much use, to me, for taking pictures, as my M-mount cameras and lenses.

In other words, I prefer taking pictures, rather than getting used to new (or old) cameras. And I prefer taking pictures with equipment I don't have to think too hard about using, be it an M2, an M9 or a 13x18cm Technika.

Probably just old age. Been there; done that; not interested any more. But I'll add that not spending money on stuff I 'can afford' means that when the time comes, I've more money for the stuff I really do want.

that's a great idea! alas, my CL will be waiting for me at the post office with a 40, and while I love my summitar, no framelines for my 73 hektor. oops.

Great, the only eyes I like to look into across a coffee shop table are not exactly photography literate. But still, I will talk to them just not about photography, unless the subject leads to Polaroid.
