Well, I'd certainly trade my M4-P for an M9, probably for an M8.2, and quite possbly for an M8. But that would still leave me an M2 and an MP....
Like others, I shoot both. If I had to choose, it would be the M9 as a matter of commercial survival. If I were doing it for a hobby, I might stick with the MP instead. But fortunately, I don't have to choose. Besides, a second-hand film M isn't really all that expensive: a few hundred euros.
A lot depends on your priorities: I drive old cars, and habitually wear my clothes until they wear out, without caring a jot for fashion. As I type this, I'm wearing a T-shirt that I bought when I was living in Guadalupe, California, and I left there 18 years ago. That's why I don't regard 500€ for a Leica as unaffordable.
