dear members from the San Francisco area.
a very good friend of mine has been killed a few days ago in San Francisco, I have known him for more than 10 years (that is half of my life), went to school with him, went out roaming the streets at night with him, played music with him for a long time, we also worked at the Montreux Jazz Festival together.
have any of you maybe attended this, or passed by and maybe took a photo or two?

I feel like any echo from there would help me, since I'm stuck here in Berlin and probably can't even go to the funeral.

Ride, dive, shoot.
Simon, I am so sorry for your loss. I can't come up with any other words to describe this. This is horrible. Accident site isn't far away from my apartment. It's only minutes ride. I often commute with bicycle and enjoy riding around the city, and I know how vulnerable cyclists are against cars, especially those driven by soulless *******s. Even just reading the articles and writing this make extremely sad and mad. I am really really sad.
Again, really sorry for your loss. I missed the walk, but I shall visit the site to pay the respect.

thank you both,
it follows me wherever I am and whatever I do, not one minute passes without me thinking of all this ****. it is hard times but I also think that it's the least thing I can do, remember him and the fact that he's left us.
last time we spoke, he asked me to photograph one of the bass guitars he'd built recently. I might still do that.

Simon, my thoughts are with you and Yannick's family in your grief. As a San Franciscan, I am sad that this tragedy could strike a visitor to our city, on a street that I use almost daily. As a parent, I cannot imagine a greater sorrow than to lose a child.

Simon, I didn't even hear about this, but I live out in Danville. It is very upsetting. Yannick looked like a good guy.

This is terrible news. My condolences to his family and friends.
I love biking too and sometimes I think there should be a separate road system just for bikers (not motorcycle riders), I know its a selfish thought but I have seen a lot of young bikers getting hit by cars and suffering grave injuries.

Ignore It (It'll go away)
I read about the accident. It angered me, because the driver left the scene (and later was exposed as DUI). It's awful and a tragedy. So young, too. San Francisco is such a great place, especially when you're in your twenties (believe me, I know!). Looking at the photos of him, I can see that he was good guy and probably really enjoying himself. My condolences on your loss, Simon, and to the family as well. Like Peter, I'm a parent and can empathize with what the family must be going through.

Please accept my heartfelt condolences from a fellow bicyclist and photographer. I live in San Francisco, and I was upset when I first heard about the incident. And now through your RFF connection, it is even more personal.

I can't tell you how sad I was to hear about this a few days ago and to now see a RFF connection as Warren mentioned it's even more heartbreaking. I love this City and it's been tough for German tourists the last few weeks. I'm sorry for your loss and please send our regards to the family.

Simon,
So sorry for the loss of a good friend...being a cyclist myself, it angers me when I hear of another getting hit by a drunk driver (not just a car)...
I'll try to remember your friend next year in the "Ride of Silence"...(a short ride in memory of those killed or injured while riding)

Hello Simon,
I just saw this thread and am so sorry to hear of your loss. Bicyclists being killed by hit and run drivers is all too frequent an occurrence here in San Francisco. This is the third I can recall in the past ten years. Progress in making the streets safer for riders here has been slow but also steady. Clearly though we as a community still have far to go.
While this thought may not help with your loss, know that the story of Yannick's tragic passing touches many many people.
