Any Silver Efex users out there have this problem?

So I decided to give Silver Efex out since a number of people seem to swear by it. I am giving the trial a try before slapping down 200 bucks but it seems to be a pretty buggy program.

The biggest problem I am having with it is once installed it works once or twice then the locks my photoshop (CS4) so I cant open any files, drag any files in to be opened, double click the work area to open a file or anything. Even the recent file open part is locked.

Uninstalling SE then it works fine, reinstall and it locks photoshop. Anyone else have this problem? I tried contacting Nik but after a week and a half I have not got so much as a peep from them.

ps. I uninstalled again just now and the selective tool panel was still there and now it still has ps locked. I went into the photoshop plugin folder and manually deleted the selective tool and ps came back to life.

I use it occasionally with photoshop CS3, but mostly with lightroom, and haven't had any similar problems.

Yeah I dont have lightroom, I got capture one 5 which of course it doesnt work in. When you open photoshop or lightroom does it automatically open the selective tool panel even when you disable it?

I'm not 100% sure what you mean by the "selective tool panel", but I just tried using the plugin again with a random picture in photoshop, and it worked as I expect it would. If you want me to try anything I'll be happy to, though note I'm on a mac.

I did have a problem with Efex occasionally locking up CS4, but I put it down to lack of RAM. Certainly when I got a new machine with a lot more RAM and installed CS4 with Efex I never had the problem again.

The small plug-in window for SE opens up in Photoshop, got the trial version, too, some time ago. But it did not lock the program so far.

I got 4 gb of ram in my machine so I am not worried about that. It seems I am the only one with this problem, could be my version of photoshop.

What platform are you running? If you are using a new(er) Mac there are issues that won't be resolved until the 64 bit version is released (later this year).

Hope this helps,

Bob
