Recently, I decided to give up on the one-body-one-lens setup with the M8 and 35/2 Biogon, and to get a 28 and a 50 instead.
I'm still waiting for my 50, which will be a 50/1.5 Nokton, but I have received the 28/2.8 M-Rokkor already, and I must say, it's quite a nice little lens!
On the M8, it roughly equals a 35mm on full-frame, so it's a nice allrounder, ideally suited for street and other daily picture taking, but also for landscapes and group shots, for example.
Before receiving it I wasn't entirely sure if the 35mm f-o-v would suit me, but judging from my experience with the 20/1.7 on the E-P1 with its 40mm equivalent f-o-v being sometimes too narrow, I was pretty optimistic. And indeed, I really like the field-of-view I get with the 28mm on the M8. For me, it's the ideal walkaround lens, as I can get much more in the frame than with the 35mm I had before (eq. 47mm), yet it's not as wide as a (real) 28mm which I know I don't like all that much.
The lens itself is pretty sharp already at f/2.8, showing slight vignetting, which is gone by f/4. Of course, with a 28/2.8 you won't get much o-o-f blurring. Still, with close subjects and distant backgrounds, subject separation is possible.
Another + for the 28mm focal length on the M8 are the framelines, which are just so wide that they still fit in my eye's field-of-view - in contrast to the 24mm framelines, whose limits to see I have to move around my eye constantly (yes, I move only the one eye I use for framing! 😉)
All in all I'm very happy I bought the lens, and when the fast 50 (which I will mainly use for portraits) arrives, I'm sure I won't miss the 35/2 Biogon at all - which is a GREAT lens, don't get me wrong, but a bit restricting if it's your only one.
Oh - and the Rokkor looks SOOOO good on my chrome M8! A bit like a real Leica lens with its yellow markings and its "retro" 70s design 🙂
EDIT: I totally forgot to mention - indeed, the 28/2.8 M-Rokkor DOES bring up the 35mm framelines on an M, but holding the lens release button down, it can easily be rotated a few degrees further to bring up the 28mm framelines. Works well for me!
