I just bought a Coolscan 9000 they're in stock at B&H! I've been waiting a long time for this one.
How does it compare to the coolscan 5000?

What banding problem? Please don´t make a statement like that without quoting at least one source......
I have heard about the banding problem in 9000

The banding problem was an issue with the previous model - the 8000. I used to have a 9000 and it's fine.
Once again, I'm late... It's already sold out 🙁
Not to be a troublemaker or anything, but I feel obligated to report that my particular 9000 does have the banding problem. I purchased it used a year tor two ago from a private seller, and fully expected it not to exhibit banding based on reports I read online that the issue had been "fixed" with the 9000. I have heard of a few other 9000 owners claiming the banding problem too.
Obviously, I am disappointed by this since it means I have to always have the fine mode (or whatever it is called) enabled in order to avoid the problem, and this increases scan times. On the other hand I love just about everything else about it! It is a very capable scanner.
I can provide sample scans if anyone wants to see what the banding looks like.

what do you do when your Coolscan is kaputt, do Nikon still support it with service...? 😱
