I just bought a nice Lunasix 3 on ebay. It works well, but has a number of large and annoying dust bunnies under the dial. It is not obvious how to get the dial assembly off. Does anyone have any information on how to dismantle one of these meters?

Cheers,

Hah! I have an old Luna 6. My dust bunnies coagulated into one large dust bunny disc that rolls about in the EV window. I suggest you name it and leave it be. If not... I've heard that an iron on low helps to soften the adhesive under the back plate. Have not tried that myself.

under the dial... you need to remove the metal disc in the center of the dials. the one with the sun/moon logo. there's a screw underneath.

Unfortunately, you need to pry that off. which is not easy because it's glued in and flush with the rim. I used a drill to make a small hole and pryed it off with a screwdriver or pin or something...

That is a sure-fire way to uglify your Lunasix. I've heard you can buy replacement discs from Gossen, but why bother? if you keep the meter in your pocket, the fluff will be back. And you'll have to do it again. so if you decide to do it, it's better to put the ugly one back.

taking the back metal plate off will NOT give you access to the dial.

oh, and you can use LR44s in the Lunasix. just tweak the needle zero to line up with the battery check, that works for moi. might need a bit of hacking to get the batteries to sit well though (hint: one washer and a bit of paper).

good luck!

I finally got around to ordering the proper Gossen battery adapter for mine. I'm surprised they still sell them.
