MF SLR for less than $100? Is it possible?

I agree, I said so too. Twice the budget will get you a working MF SLR, It got me mine.

Guys,
Thank you all for the replies
If you take an advice of Ezzie and check my signature, you'll see I already have 6x6 TLR (and I love it) and I already have 6x6 folder (and I love it too) :)

What I do want is the SLR because I would like to get the ability of proper focusing still having Medium Format camera in hands
I will consider doubling my funds, as many of you advice

BTW, if we are already discussing cheap versions of 6x6 (or 6*4,5) SLRs, which one will be the lighets and the smallest? :)

645 cameras will be slighty smaller and less heavy, but they're all pretty bulky and fairly hefty, the Kiev 60 is a beast, specially when you get away from the 80mm lens. Frankly, if you want small and light, the MF SLR is not the way to go.

@hitmanh
645 cameras are not an option for me, as I prefer square format
for "small and light" i have my Isolette III or Minolta x-700 for 35mm :)

thank you all for the answers, guys

If you could go 645, I think a Mamiya 645 for ~$100 is doable. Looking at KEH right now, I can do a body for $89, 80mm lens for $31, and 120 insert for $5, but I've seen the bodies sell for a lot less than that.

I also prefer 6x6, but the M645 is a good, reliable system with a great selection of relatively inexpensive lenses and accessories. IMO, they're so cheap, its worth having around just for the 80/1.9.

After my Pentax sat around on a web page for a year, I sold my 6x7 with handle and lens for $300 to a dealer.

Kiev's and Pentacons can quickly run that up in repairs.

I have seen 500C's for literally free, old style back, but you will need a lens.

Mamiya 1000s occasionally are very low, especially with the plain prism.
Do not buy it without a prism unless you are very creative.

I used to sell a few refurb Pentacons, I like the cameras very much, along with the Kiev version, but reliability is often an issue and am not sure of service here, I sent mine with a friend to Prague and it always came back with a small bag of parts.

Prism, IMO, on them is too heavy.

Spend a little more, buy the Pentax 6x7, a 500C Blad, or settle for the 1000s -- a guy came in more than once to a camera show and sold a Mamiya super outfit with three lenses, case and spare back for $500, so if you really try to squeeze the budget, you may end up penny wise and pound foolish.

Nothing I have not done before, I still have Flexarets I will not sell until I could find reasonable cost cla's for them, would give them away first, some designs just seem to be better than others.

If it is kind of an exercise, then a lot of luck may be involved, but the time is right now, people are selling, and it is a buyer's market here in the US.

Dealers are offering $125 for good lenses, and I sold my Pentax for $300-- the handle was probably worth $100 not long ago.

Stuff happens, yesterday I did see a 60's Dodge Dart a guy found while in Arizona, very clean, one owner, new good paint, clean chrome, at least a 9 out of ten, with a green interior that was so ugly it looked good-- he talked the guy down from $500 to $400 and drove it back to Ohio.

If you are serious about 6x6 and an absolute limit of $100 then the elderly Japanese SLR´s may be your thing.

I´ve seen the Kalimar/Fujita 66 on ebay for less than that. There´s one now at $45 8hrs before end of auction. A Kalimar SixSixty at $15 1d7hrs before end of auction.

At the other end of the scale a BIN $180 for a Fujita (Soligor) 66. These are all more or less the same camera. But they are rare, so are parts and lenses. But they are cool.

Of the non system types, vintage 6x6 SLRs you have the Reflex Korelle, the Reflex Beauty and Agiflex/Agilux. The latter I´ve seen go for a smidgen over $100. Or a Norita 66 aka Rittreck, Warner Rittreck or Graflex 66.

after checking images from mamiya 645, i will reconsider my approach to MF SLR
Thank you all for the answers, guys
