Panasonic 14/2.5 Specs Leaked

According, the 43Rumours group, Panasonic Germany accidentally put up the specs for a 14/2.5 lens where the 20/1.7 specs should have been.

The following comes from the 43Rumours group:

The 14mm f/2.5 lens
- 6 elements (3 aspherical lenses)
- closest focus distance 18cm
- Filter size 46mm
- Overall Lenght 20,5mm
- It weights 55g!!! That’s 45g less than the Panasonic 20mm f/1.7 lens
- I don’t know if the price refers to the 20mm or the new 14mm lens (399 Euro)

Well, it should be a great performer with 3 ASPH ELEMENTS!
F/2.5 is a good compromise for fast and quality wide open

$525.00 USD... a bit high for a metal Mount Only lens, IMO

What is driving the MSRP to be so high I mean Really.... $525.00 USD for a 28/2.5 FOV ??,
I'd expect this kind of price from Voigtlander/Cosina.
Will the IQ rival the VM 28/2 Ultron (or CV 28/1.9 ASPH). ???

I own the 14-45 and 20-f/1.7 Lumix lenses. Which lens I choose to take with me primarily depends on the light. For nighttime or indoor light it's the 20, because of the wide maximum aperture available. But if the situation is outdoors in daylight, then I take the 14-45 because I get a wider angle of view (at 14mm vs the 20mm), plus I can't make use of the 20's f/1.7 max aperture in bright light anyway without neutral density filters.

Which makes me think, do I really need this new lens? The difference, besides being a bit smaller, but lacking in variable focal length, really comes down to f/3.5 for my current lens vs f/2.5 maximum aperture for the new lens. I dunno. That's a big investment for just a stop or so of light. Now, if the new lens were a 14mm at f/2.0, now they'd have my attention.

Yes, unfortunately 2.5 is just a tad slow, especially for those using the Panasonic for video - where you are often tied to 50 or 60 shutter speed.
So far the 20mm pancake is one of the most widely acclaimed lenses. We just need something wider.

I'm hoping for a little wider lens--10mm, 11mm, 12mm. Something in the f/2.8 range. For about $400.

Panny is kicking Oly's butt big time in lens department. I was very disappointed to see only zoom lenses from Oly. 28 & 40mm combo sounds really good. Now if someone makes a body in size of Pen with built-in EVF...

Or better yet, an OVF with focus indicator and frame lines! 😀

I agree, Sug. I can handle the 28/40 FL combo. That's like my CLE!

I got a feeling that this will be "good glass". And kudos to Panny for knowing there's a market for a relatively fast wide prime. I'm not too keen about the plastic either, but I won't complain about the AF. If it's good fast glass and focuses quickly, I want it! 😎

Ah, the cure for that is the in-body IS of my E-P2.

Not really, most are using a tripod.
It just cuts down on your options when you are tied to a very slow shutter and film speed (trying to stay under 400).

but I don't think the consumer market is really buying into m4/3's right? From what I see, if the consumer market buys a m4/3 zoom lens kit, that's it. It's all sunny, clicking, clicking and clicking😉

They need to grab the enthusiast market to get the stone rolling!

Not sure I follow you. Using a tripod gives you the exact same benefit as an IS system. It enables you to use slower shutter in less-light-situations to produce non-blurred pictures (assuming that the subject is not a jittery cat).

Ok, I'm repeating myself here (from another thread).

Olympus broke the mold and introduce a system that got popular due to its petite-size and excellent IQ. But instead of going all the way and continue to *create* their own mass market by fulfilling their own marketing campaign, leaving competitors to play catch-up, they couple their small cameras with big, slow zooms.

So the allure of compact, sleek image is contradicted by their own offerings. It will take somebody like Panasonic to prove the point. They already get my money instead of Olympus for the 20mm/1.7 lens. And I know for sure that I'm not the only diehard Oly fan who did this.

If Olympus have any ears on the ground at all, they would have been awaken.
