Following on from roll #4 posted in this thread.

This roll is Agfa again and was marked ‘Niagara, NZ, Lepperton Farm’ … there are thirty five exposures on the roll and it seems like the film was a bit over developed or over exposed to me!

No sign of Niagara but we are definitely in New Zealand … being a Kiwi the countryside is unmistakable to me. Lepperton, where almost all of the photos are taken, is ten kilometres from where I spent a lot of time as a chid and then as a youth staying with my grandmother in New Plymouth which is a large seaside town … probably now a city! My father was born in a place called Eltham about forty kilometres south of Lepperton so my Father’s family were all from this area.

The first few shots on the roll are taken leaving Suva … I scanned the Suva roll the other day and recognise the docks. Like I said these films were definitely not stored in chronological order … which kinda makes it fun at times … and sometimes not!

Some of the pics are definitely on the blurry side so I’m again wondering about the user of the camera and who actually took these photographs … sometimes it seems like they may have been taken with the lens not quite fully extended? I thought maybe it was a scanning problem at first but after looking closely at the negs with a loupe they aren’t great and the grain is excessive in a lot of exposures! No real standout images in this roll IMO but interesting none the less!

Once again … thanks for looking and please continue with the valuable feedback.

I agree with Helen, Keith. This is a time capsule that has come to life. It reinforces that less is more. Less technology and more photography skills.

Thanks Helen!

Raid ... if nothing else ever comes out of this it would be great just in the fact that it's made me start using my Leica II again! 😛

Less is definitely more!

Keith,

I've been looking through your scanned rolls and gosh, are they worth all the effort you make! I concur with the sentiments of "less is more" when it comes to cameras. Good to hear that you are using the old Leica again!

Keith, I admire such projects, with all efforts its worth of hassle. Beside sentimental value such photos bring back our history, the casual one.

Horse jump is doubleplusgood.

Keith, being from there, what are we looking at? Is this something of a rustic farm-like tourist area, and are those large cabins for families? Or is that someone's home/farm they were visiting? It seems like they were having a really good time to have devoted a whole roll of film to that area. This may not show some of the interesting locations for us to try and identify, but it was obviously a fun thing for them. Make you homesick?

I just love the picture of the adult sitting on a pony followed by a rider and horse jumping the fence. The pair is just excellent. Thanks for posting all these pics, it has been a joy viewing/reading the threads!

I stopped missing NZ about five minutes after I left ... various reasons! 😀

As much as this is an interesting project I am going to be paid for it when the owner of the collection returns from overseas and I hand him the discs with all the files on them. How much ... who knows because we never really discussed a price?

Uploading the files to this site has been very little extra work in reality because each roll is stored as full size tifs, full size jpegs, and compressed 800 x 600 jpegs suitable for emailing or web posting. What it has done is keep me focused on a rather long task ... without the incentive of posting these here my interest may have waned a little by now.

I've just finished scanning the eighth roll which is India, the one before was Banff again (more) and the one prior to that was Suva. The second Banff roll has some seriously good images on it and one in particular that is an absolute standout for me so far. The Indian images shot in Bombay are not far behind ... absolutely amazing stuff!

I love the 'train set' on the dock side!

I opened up RFF again today and started looking for your next instalment. For me your threads have provided more interest than any of the others posted in the last week or so. Don't know what it says about me, but your efforts are really appreciated.

These shots are what photography is all about, to me.
I find looking at these images far more satisfying than leafing through the pages of the latest issue of any photography magazine.
Thanks for sharing Keith.
