I was so excited when I came across this information! Finally, Fujifilm is making the camera that people have been begging for.


Announced at Photokina 2010: The Fuji B100!

From the product release:

"FUJIFILM Corporation is pleased to announce the new FinePix B100, a high-grade digital box camera featuring an APS-C CMOS sensor, a fixed F11 focal length plastic lens, and non-coupled viewfinder, due for commercial release in late 2010.

The FinePix B100 is a significant improvement over DSLR's and compact point-and-shoot designs. The tactile controls will be familiar to anyone who has used a camera from the earlier part of the 20th century. The user is relieved of the stress of properly framing the shot. This is due to the B100's lack of an accurate viewfinder. Advancing to the next shot is achieved through a finicky plastic winding lever. Fujifilm engineers have also included a firmware routine to randomly introduce "light leaks" and "fog" to produce a desired film-like effect.

The nostalgia is complete due to the incorporation of a stiff and unresponsive shutter release button, inconveniently placed near the lens. This ensures the possibility of blurry photos, even on brightly lit days.

Unfortunately the camera does not have geotagging capabilities, so to figure out where you are, leave a trail of peas behind you.

Fuji is supplying peas, or bread crumbs, for such purposes. I think the peas are a safer bet -- naughty squirrels are likely to steal the bread crumbs.

It's probably heresy, but have Fuji collaborated with Leica on the B100? The concept just reminds me a bit of the Leica 0 series...

I think it's safe to say from the promotional photo that this is no mere mock-up. There are so many important design features on the B100, it boggles the mind.

For instance, the fixed plastic F11 lens is just so revolutionary. If you look closely at the photo, there's a metal sliding switch that allows the user to change between F11 and F16 for added versatility. This means you can use the camera in very bright sunlight (F11), or very very bright sunlight (F16). You don't have to worry about indoor shots, or cloudy days! I'm so glad the B100 absolves me of the bother of working with "low light".

Another great feature: the boxy features of the B100 means it can be used as a doorstop. You can't do this with a regular digital camera. They're too smooth and "ergonomic", whatever that means.

It has a too big brand name on it almost impossible to hide it during stealth street photography. Do you have any version without the brand name on? Or I can paint it black maybe 🙂

Of course, it will feature nearly the same functionality as the Fuji version, but with a bit of Hermes leather -- and it will sell for a very reasonable $8000. Those red dots are expensive to make, you know.

Of course, it will feature nearly the same functionality as the Fuji version, but with a bit of Hermes leather -- and it will sell for a very reasonable $8000. Those red dots are expensive to make, you know.
