Problem With My MP Advance Lever

Seems my MP advance lever is stuck. I just loaded a roll of film and advanced the lever once, fired the shutter and advanced again, but this time it stuck about half way. Any suggestions? Solutions? The Leicavit won't advance either, but will when not on the camera.

Darn-it. Does it have to go to Leica--no warranty. Or maybe Sherry or DAG?

1. set the rewind lever to R and see if you can rewind the film. If yes, will the advance lever then free up?

2. hard to diagnose without the camera in my hands. Best to send it to someone who knows Leica's.

The film is not in the camera as it got stuck and I took it out using the rewind knob.

Again, loaded film in it like I always do. Before I mounted the 'vit I advanced the lever one more time to make sure the film was advancing ( I always do this )--it got stuck halfway through. Turned the r lever to rewind the film and re-winded (sp?) the film.

Thanx for those suggestions Helen. At least I have the M3 to play with while I wait--unless someone else has a solution.

Will the M3 wind and click when there is no film loaded? I would try it with and without the Leicavit.

Do you bulk-load film ? If yes and you shoot a lot of bulk-loaded film, changes a high that a small snippet of film got stuck somewhere inside and is blocking the shutter mechanism. Just a thought ... Hopefully it turns out well !

Hi Bummer,

it could be the threaded washer just below the rewind crank, the one that you have to remove after you removed the crank if you want to take the top off.
Get it ? it looks like a washer but its actually a nut, very flat.
It happened to me with a couple M6. Take a look.
