I've owned an M8 and love my RD-1, so know the M9 isn't worth the full cash outlay to me. But I do have a week long trip to Japan coming up and am thinking of renting a M9 for that trip. Has anyone rented from

http://www.lensrentals.com/rent/leica-m9/for-leica

or know of another recommended place to rent from? Price isn't that much of a factor (as long as it isn't $7k! :D)

Best,

I've rented slr lenses from them a few times, no problems... lenses were in great condition, shipping was easy... would rent from them again anytime.

I just rented a whole bunch of zeiss lenses last weekend from them and the experience was extremely positive. I have no hesitation renting from them again.

Service from them is fantastic. I rented both an EOS lens and an M lens a month ago. They day after I placed my order they called and emailed me to make sure I wanted the zeiss 50/1.5 in M mount, not the planar for EOS. Everything was in great condition, and they didn't require a deposit, either.

These guys get customer service! I rent Canon equipment from them for every wedding I shoot. Usually a couple extra 5D bodies, (Classic not MKII) a 24-70, an extra 430EX II and something fun like a 135 f/2 or an 85 f/1.2. Shipping is fast and reliable. The packing is outstanding. The camera bags that they send with their stuff are indistinguishable from brand new and have room for the rest of my stuff. Return shipping is easy. I can't really say anything bad about them. I've spent at least 2k renting equipment for work in the last year. Great company!

The thing I don't like about this is you could buy, use and then resell for less than the cost of renting.

This. Given the going prices of used M9s, it almost doesn't make sense to rent them -- unless you don't have the cash to buy one. In that case, lensrentals is really the only place that seems not to require a full deposit up front.

I looked at going down this path, then bought a used M8 from KEH.

You could easily buy a lens from KEH shoot it for a month and return it and all it would cost is shipping sometimes. Sometimes KEH has refunded me more than I paid in the first place!?
