I've just received a Penti I in the post. (It's a half frame, but I thought that more scale focus cams would use this system).
It has one of two cassettes. I'm a bit puzzled by how it might work.
It has no way of taking the film up into the receiving cassette. It looks as if it simply pushes the film into the cassette!

Can anyone help?

That's how it works. The film is pushed into the takeup cassette, by the action of the sprockets pulling the film across.

The Rapid system will only work with short lengths.

The film is first cut, tapered on the tip, then inserted into the takeup. It is shoved in there, frame by frame, after each exposure.

Oh Yeah! Thanks for that, ZorkiKat. I've tried a short piece of film with the back off (but the Rollei like pressure plate in position), and it does!
I'll go now to the darkroom and load a length of film in the dark, that will be today's challenge. Maybe using one cassette as the take-up spool and the film rolled up on the other side will work.

I'm ready to dev a test film from my Vitomatic, this film could join it in the tank today....

Thanks for the link, Roger. Your site is quite a mine of information.
I like and will use your idea of employing a modified centre spool from standard cassette to feed the film into the only rapid cassette in the camera.

Well, I had two pieces of test film to dev, so was keen to see what I had.
Both this and the Vitomatic IIa had at least a few minutes "toasting" under a strong lamp to tease light leaks. I have just hung the film to dry in the hi-tech drying cubicle (shower) and can see no signs of light leaks and the Penti has a series of perfectly placed little frames (18x24). A quick glance via a magnifying glass shows promising images!
Yay! could be one of my most successful couple of 1st films.......

Thanks for your help. This post was about the rapid cassette system, I will start a new thread in the half frame section re this camera.

Dave..

You should get two of the Rapid cassettes. These originally were made for the Agfa Karat cameras.

What I've done is count out 12 exposures + 3 blanks. Normally, it's two blanks, but I add a third and then insert some film into the takeup cassette to give it a head start.

Which Penti do you have? I have a Penti II with the gold-colored finish. I also have several of the little Agfa Karats, which are interesting little cameras.

I'm not sure that having two rapid cassettes is actually required or even desired. I have tried to use a rapid camera by first loading the film into one of the cassettes. But I soon found out it's quite hard to get a 12 exposure length of film into the rapid cassettes by hand without touching the image area of the film.
