Here are my picks for he week.

I picked this photograph by ChEc because of the simple lines, shapes and tones. It a very strong but somewhat simple graphic with rhythm. It just caught my eye.

I like the obvious depth perspective with the lines and the fading image on the fog. Nicely framed complsition with mood.

I have a great deal of respect for petronius as a photographer. His photographs combine simple objects into a frame that pull together images of things that may not otherwise be connected. I see many of these things that petronius pulls together but often don't associate them until I see one of his images. - jim

I find that writing about my reasons for picking images to be very cumbersom and as a result are hollow and pathetic bit of information about my true response to a photograph. I am not a writer and find it diffacult and time consuming to describe fealings and responses to images. - jim

The best camera is one that still works!
I decided to restrict myself to six choices this week which was hard as I had around fifteen saved in my favourites ... but it was good to force myself to narrow that down a little and it does leave plenty of scope for other people's choices.
My final three:
I always find it hard to go past anything israel alanis posts with the Robot ... I love the look this camera produces and israel's street images always speak to me.
This pic by Steinberg2010 attracted me for it's sense of height and light.
This image by luiman is my favourite for the week. I like everything about it from the composition to the tones produced by the pushed tri-x and the person in the left foreground is what makes it really special IMO. For some reason this photograph made me think about Al Kaplan who I still miss a lot here at RFF.

wow. that's really good. i took a lot of dia de los muertes photos. i love the costumes and their halloweeney aspect. i have a lot of sympathy for this one, but it stands on its own as well as a wonderful, mysterious photo.

How has everyone felt about the 'Picks' this week? Personally, I've enjoyed the comments that some have made about their picks, it's been interesting to see not just what's interested people but also why. Once again this thread has made me realise how many good photographs I've missed in the gallery this week. Thumbnails just aren't enough to give you an idea of whether the picture is truly interesting or not... if only we had the time to click each pic eh?

I feel a bit hampered by the need to describe why I like a picture. Sort of like explaining a joke, it feels like I'm robbing it of its worth. Not sure if I'm going to follow through with the explanations next time.

I hope this thread brings more folks to post in the Gallery. There are many great photos here and many folks appreciating different things. If you are reading this and are a new member or one who does not yet have a member gallery started. Please do start posting your photos.

I don't imagine anyone feels that everyone must leave a comment or explanation - it's shaky ground in some ways as its certainly no critique and not necessarily much more than a rough outline of the elements that appeal...at least in the case of the comments I've put with each image.
Perhaps the Picks of the Week thread could and should be left as a far more open forum, put up the pictures you like and as many/few as you see fit, comment or don't and leave it at that - no limits etc

For this week picks I don't have anything new to bring to the table, so I'll just air this little comment on the topic of comments.
Many of the pictures here can (and probably should) speak for themselves, but when picking the less obvious ones I think a comment like Machspeeds adds a hole new dimension

I like Petronius' image bellow.
Lately I've begun to think that photography without human presence is somewhat less expressive. Humans are landscapes in themselves.. but I don't want to talk about that now. The point I want to make is that here comes a photograph that teaches me not to try to formulate rules as good photography can come in many forms.
It has a compositional structure that activates my visual memory, it's like a haunting image that I've seen somewhere but not quite like it. I know I've seen images like this but the haunting effect keeps coming back like a spell. I feel like the photograph is about the memory process in itself.
