35mm f1.2 Nokton Shortage

I bought mine from Cameraquest with no delay. It seems B&H and Adorama are backordered and there is no stock. I love this lens on my M8 finding it a superior value. Could it be that the M9 has caused this lens to be even more popular? For the M8 I find it the best lens I have, even comparing it to my Summicrons and Noctilux. Maybe people have come to the same conclusion and nothing can touch this 35mm f1.2 Nokton for the price!

Next thing they'll say is that a 35/1.0 or 0.95 is coming out. And definitely not at the right time. All my $$ has been spent or at least allocated for the holiday season. With all this giving, I forgot to give myself something :bang:

I think the 35mm f1.2 Nokton and the 50mm f1.2 Canon are the two lenses I have that are so good ... that I'll starve before I sell them. 😛

Think of it as virtue. It's better to give than to receive you know. Anyway, I can't see a shortage of this thing in Japan. Fujiya has several units and, if I'm not mistaken, the price seems to have fallen.

It just means that Adorama and B+H don't get their stock directly from Cosina/Voigtlander, but from the two distributors (Cameraquest and Photo Village) that have the lens in stock, new and used. The lens sells on ebay all the time - 3 copies in the last week.

A great lens to be sure. Of course there are only so many assembly lines and not all lenses can be produced at once. Generally from what I understand, they (lenses) are made in batches (runs)/ Same thing applies to Leica and say Nikon lenses for example. Just when stocks run low and seems to be out of stock at most places (and people wonder whats going on), a new run is made and it becomes in-stock again. I've seen this happen with many lenses. Who knows, maybe somethings up?

Funny, I've seen a couple NIB examples collecting dust on camera store shelves, probably because of the reason stupid leica stated, in Japan these lenses are stupidly overpriced. I'll buy mine from Hong Kong using my Japanese credit card and save 25% (converting yen to US dollars).

I saw a chrome one the other day at the same store that I bought mine (also chrome).....I think I paid around 800.00usd and if I remember correctly the one I saw is now around 1,100.00 usd.....I thought about picking up an extra one but I'd rather spend the money on a plane ticket and some film to somewhere cool...

I have one and simply love it.
No complaints optically.
Big brute of a 35mm for a rangefinder.... but so are the Noctiluxes, so what do you expect for f/1.2?

Exactly. There are a LOT of [smaller] alternatives. it's just that none of them go to f/1.2!

In reality, I don't find it all that bad. Especially if you're used to fast SLR lenses! I've got a bag full of Canon glass that could swallow the 1,2/35 Nokton whole - and still fit the lens cap on. 😉

Yes, the qualities of this lens far out-weight (pardon the pun) it's obvious size compared to it's smaller counterparts that don't come close to the unique look this lens offers in it's images.

While the Summilux ASPH is technically better it certainly doesn't draw as elegantly as the Nokton, and while the two can be compared for speed, I'd like to own both at the same time someday, as they both offer something different, albeit in the same focal length - with the Lux having the slight edge due to it's smaller size and higher contrast wide open.
