Nominal 67mm ?

The more I use 50mm lenses on the M8 , the more content I am with the nominal 67mm focal length which is offered [ I am not going to get into pedantics about how this is arrived at ! ]
My vintage Sonnar and clones , Summitar , Elmar and single Fed collapsible all proffer a dee'ferent experience and result , but this so odd frame seems just to work for me as no other ...
Has anyone else experienced this fortuitous accident ?
It must indeed be seriously odd to use such a camera with just a collection of 50s borrowed from others , but it genuinely works for me as I am beginning to frame in 67mm ! LOL .

I haven't tried any of my 50's on my M8. I use mostly a 35 (47 equiv) and sometimes a 25 (33 equiv). I guess I'm more of a normal-to-wide type of shooter, but maybe I should try it.

I've had the same experience... I thought the 50mm would be a "once in a while" on the m8, especially since I tended to shoot a 35mm on film. But I probably use 50mm about 45% of the time, and I'm liking what happens.

My M8 is my first RF, so the crop factor isn't a big problem. Of my three current lenses, I use a 28mm about 45%, a 50 about 45%, and an 80 about 10%.

Yes, Dee; I agree. It's surprising, but I do like the effect. On a vacation trip last year I took just the 25 and 50mm lenses with the M8, and it turned out I used the 50 more.

Actually, it produces about the same angle of view on the M8 as the 100mm on my Bronica RF645, and I found that also not too long for a useful walk-about lens.

Oh yeah... 50 on the M8 is just great, really nice for a short reach or portraits, and combined with a 28 is really the perfect combo.

Yet another vote for the 50: I really like my C-Sonnar on my M8. That and a 21.

Same here, my M8 kit is 18-28-50.

As the late Al Kaplan used to say: all you need is a 35 and a short tele .... 35/75 is a perfect two lens combo. And RFs and Tele lenses work very well together 🙂

I agree also. I use 50's about 2/3 of the time. Just got a Cron 28 though and it looks like the ideal complement. The effective 67mm really is a good cross between a portrait lens and a standard lens.
