I have it and love it.
Haven't been able to shoot a lot with it, as my M8 went off for repairs shortly after I got the lens.
It's obviously larger than the 75/2.5, which I used to have. But the ability to open up to f/1.8 is very nice.

I have it and have had it since April last year. Very good lens, somewhere between the 75f2 AA and the Summarit 75f2.5 in performance. The 75f2 is better close-up - floating element and all, but once you get to f2.8-f4 I cant tell them apart.
The lens is designed to give a slightly softer contrast @ 1.8-2.0 for portraits - and works very well for that. The resolution is still quite high @ f1.8 - but the design accentuates a soft "flare" that smoothes out skintones and reduces wrinkles. One lens that our spouse will thank you for at some time.
The Summicron 75f2 is "brutal" as a portrait lens and quite high contrast.
In rendition the 75f1.8 is somewhat like the 75f1.4 - nice, smooth bokeh.
Check on Flickr for "Voigtlander Heliar 75mm f1.8 Classic". There is a site with a couple of 100 shots done with it.
I like the fact that it comes with a reversible hood and if you buy from Cameraquest or Photo Villa in N.Y - you also get the 75 mm brightline finder included. I think it comes out to US$ 715 for the package.

Tony, with the R3M you dont need the finder - but I think it comes with the package. The R3M/A is designed for this lens (or any 75 for that matter - just one set of frames - no "doubling up" as with the M4P/M6?MP). You cant have too many brightline finders anyway!

Ordered mine before release. Got lens quickly. Took this image and then dropped the lens... Sent it back to Japan and have only just got it back. It's big but very nice.

Suggest you look at Sean Reid's article "75mm Lenses on the M9." His excellent reviews are available by subscription only at www.reidreviews.com. All of these 75mm lenses are thoroughly evaluated. You can then judge for yourself.

It's really nice. Personally, it's my first foray into the 75mm focal length, so its taking a bit to get used to. I may or may not sell it, depending on that.

Tony - he's a wonderful dog. Border Collie all the way through. Superb nature, especially considering he has had two replacements hips and he's only 4. His brother is even more photogenic...

Mike - I'm very happy with the lens selection. Might trim off the Zeiss glass. I've owned an M6, MP and M8 and never had any Leica glass. Don't know if I'm missing anything, but my ignorance is bliss in the wallet area... ;-)

Got this lens recently, but have only the Bessa R2a to mate it with and I think at f1.8 a bit longer baseline is in order. Despite this, I like the Bokeh of this lens. What is really helpful is to use the 75mm finder that is selling with it if your viewfinder is 0.72x like this one. I'll do a full test on my new Ikon in a few days.
The attraction of this lens, aside from the cost, is that if I want Head and shoulders portraits the f1.8 will do just fine, if I want landscape and architectural I can stop down and brace if necessary. I find that I spend a lot of time covering up clients flaws when I shoot portraits whith my Canon L-lenses. Seems like a wast of good glass for portraits! For group shots I do need edged to edge sharpness...but I digress. The attached images were at an unknown but fairly wide open aperture on the CV75mm Classic.
I'm going to do a full studio portrait session when my three daughters visit this weekend. This will be a good test.

From the couple of responses in this and other threads, sounds like the few who have this lens like it. So, I was wondering:
What have you not liked about this lens?
Why did you choose a 75mm instead of a 90mm?
I've not seen a lot of color work with this lens. Any color shots available?

There really isn't anything about this lens I don't like. I'd love it if it were smaller and focused to .7 meters. But I don't expect it.
I chose it over a 90 because I just shoot better with a 75 on my M8. When the day comes that I switch to a FF digital rangefinder, maybe I'll have to find a 90. But for now, this just fits for me.
I don't shoot much color - or I should say I don't process many of my images in color. So I cannot offer much in that area.

I have it and like it very much. I also have the Summarit 2.5 Leica. The Out of focus is good on both but the CV is better.
Both of these were shot with an M9 and SF58 flash. I have a roll of the new Porta 400 shot with the lens in developing, I'll post later.

I've now used the 75mm for portraiture and find the sharpness on center more than adequate. I've not retouched any of these so you can see the resolution in the hair and wonderful bokeh. I don't have a problem focusing accurately on the M9 or M6 (0.82 viewfinder) and use this lens in conjunction with a Canon 85mm for portraits. I have many other lenses, but these two are my favorites for single portraits.
Shot at f2. Just a junky backyard for OOF .
