There is a whole new generation using flash's on the go. Mayhaps you've heard of "the strobist"?

Nah, just got this from Robert at Precision Camera (which is still taking pre-orders) The difference is they don't specify a price, though they do mention the "about 1,000" rumor. I'm guessing it's the listing of a price that made them ask to take it down from B&H and Adorama, maybe that means the price isn't set in stone yet.
Robert@precision-camera said:We are taking quite a few preorders but I talked to the Fuji rep today and it looks good for us to get them all taken care of quickly.
March is still the date.
Hope this helps!

Maybe... I didn't pick it. Tons of useful info offered for free though. Helped me learn about using off camera lighting, that's for sure.

There is no way on earth they'll revise the price down, thats just telling people their camera is not worth it, so the logical conclusion is that X100 would cost even more than $1200...

Sorry, I thought we were talking of on-camera flash .... so flasher would have been a better name

I think that's a bit too much speculation for my preference. It could be that it will be 1200 and they just don't like how many people are complaining about it, and want to focus on more easy to swallow marketing stuff, and announce the price just before launch. It could be less and they want to avoid what you said, or it could be more.
Another thought is that they might want to see what the exchange rate is in another 2 months and be able to adjust in small amounts of 25 or 50 dollars. It's just too vague of a sign asking them to pull the two major US dealers announced price for me to come to any conclusion from it.

Also, the only people that have seen the listed price of 1200 are the early adopter gear heads like us that would love to see it come in for less. But if major resellers like B&H and Adorama are listing the price, it could get around to a wider audience.

That makes no sense whatsoever... Fuji doesn't think like Leica.

Adorama and B&H have the price listed at 1199.oo USD Only Adorama is allowing pre-order, B&H is not.

Which is, indeed, a powerful argument for the X100 NOT having one. Historically, 'serious' cameras don't have built-in flashes, and X100 wants to postion itself as a 'serious' camera.

Did I miss something here, the Nikon D100, D200, D300, D300s. and I believe the D700 have pop-up flashes? Depending on who is arguing, these are Nikon prosumer or professional cameras.

Probably they are not "serious" cameras...

The d700 is definitely a serious camera. If you hold disdain for it, it's because of some kind of anti-dslr bias, not any objective categorization. The camera makes some amazingly nice images at all ISO levels and takes a huge range of quality glass. The D700 image files are superior to the M9 files in every metric save possibly resolution, and I'm sure no one will say the M9 isn't a serious camera.
Would anyone argue the X1 isn't a serious camera? Plenty of people on RFF seem to like it for the images it makes, and if anything it has a much goofier flash than the X100.
Dinging a camera for having a built in cheapo flash that doesn't add any size or weight is like getting mad at a box graphic or the color of the battery charger.

Believe me... there is a lot of X1 hate out there... and many people consider it to be a way too expensive P&S.

My D200 is not at all serious, I can't even have a polite conversation about cheeses with it any more, it just wants to talk about the girls in the other corner. MAybe it's going through some teenage stage.
