Checking the camera working distance and rangefinder at closest distances are not easy at all. E.g. a caliper has too short working envelope for the depth measurements. And, the pressure plate is flexible, so I can not decide when I get the “touch point”. No wonder that the results were freezing. From 28, 5 mm to 29 mm ranged the grades. Different points of pressure plate showed different distances. The cream of the joke is that repeating the measures issued in diverse results.

RF adjusting: at 1 m distance random user errors occur in sighting the rangefinder. Different measures give different outcomes.

To measure the lens register cut a small piece of glass so it fits on the film rails (between the guides). You will need something pretty accurate to measure the depth from the flange - at least decent vernier calipers, or better still a depth micrometer.

P.S. I was assuming your camera is one of the later models with a removable back. I am not sure how you would do this accurately on an early type. I have often wondered about this myself!
