Back around Thanksgiving of last year, I lost my rewind crank on my M6. I contacted dag camera about a used one, and lucky for me, he had one. I made my purchase and waited.. the package never came. Don was gracious enough to send another.. which never came. Third time's the charm? Nope.. Four? lost again.. what the heck?

Anyways, this isn't a bash of DAG, i've bought stuff from him on a couple other occasions that have arrived with no issues, and to his credit, he tried 4 times to send me the part, it just never seemed to make it here. We tried two different addresses too. I ended up giving up waiting/trying and bought a new crank from a local source (more expensive, but at least It's not lost in the mail)

Anyways, i'm just curious if anyone else has had these kinds of problems?

Did DAG ship each package using the same carrier? was the package insured? with the usps if its not insured assume it will be stolen. the usps won't tell you the statistics on lost packages, but they never loose an insured package. think of it like kickback, you pay for postage but if you absolutely need it delivered safe then pay up. UPS and Fedex are a little better but not by much. Shipping cost have soared and service has plummeted. The USPS farms out some of their deliveries to outside vendors and god only knows who that is.

I have experienced a similar thing.

I ordered an M3 eyepiece from DAG and I waited for few weeks and I eventually forgot about it...that is until DAG emailed me saying that he found a package meant to be sent to me.

He said the item was already in the envelope ready to be sent but somehow the package was 'lost' in his workshop.

Unfortunately the eyepiece arrived after I had sold my M3.

Thats good to know..............although I have had horrible experience with UPS!!!!

I've sent Don a lot of stuff over the years and never had a problem with the quality of his work or with shipping. He's not as meticulous about packaging as Leica NJ, but again, I've nver had a problem.

There is no way a package will get lost 4 times - that's just impossible! He never sent the package or he keeps sending it to the wrong address - there's no other explanation.

I've used Dag a number of times; never had anything lost tho he sometimes does not seem to remember my gear when I do get him. Everything is eventually forgiven when it arrives smooth as butter.

Hard to believe he would be willing to send four different units and also hard to believe undelivered units would not eventually be delivered back to him.

But reality has always held its challenges for me.

Hard to understand him unsuccessfully shipping the same item 4 times without once trying to use a shipping method that's trackable...

He sometimes tells you that its going out, then forgets. I've had that happen a few times. Just remind him, he'll eventually get it to you. I'm not sure why he doesn't hire somebody to help him with the non-technical aspect of his business...

I agree with the poster that the packages were in Don's basement. Never sent.

You would not have this problem with Sherry Krauter.

She delivers on all fronts.

Youxin is even better. He gets it done the same day it arrives and back to you before the week is done ;-)
