One of the members of Nelsonfoto stated that Eddy Smolov returned a camera with a full refund, unrepaired, stating that he has retired for health reasons.

One of our great resources stepping down. I have a Contax II and Contax IIIa that are working again thanks to Eddy.

I wish the best for him, he is one of the old school greats.

I was afraid that Eddy had died. This is a relief.
Eddy is my friend.
He calls me "My Friend Raid" when we chat.
He is a good man. I can tell from talking with him.
He may have worked one 30 items for me so far.
Eddy is very proud about his knowledge of each component that goes into a Contax camera.

This is sad to hear. I "discovered" Eddy about six or seven years ago and I've sent him many cameras for repair since then. The last one was a Baby Rollei with a winding problem. As with the others, he returned it it perfect working order. He deserves retirement but I will (selfishly) miss his services. RCB
 
Yes, there is someone he has endorsed in his automated reply emails when you try to reach Eddy by email.

This is good news - I still have more cameras that need work. But, I will miss dealing with Eddy and discussing a particular repair issue with him: "Reechard, my friend...."

Jerry Sorin is who Yuri Boguslavsky aka Fedka.com uses for his repair service. Jerry has CLA'd a Nikon-S and a Jupiter-3 for me. He is very reasonable and fast. I highly recommend him.

Jerry Sorin told me today that he has visited Eddy yesterday. Eddy will contact me soon, once he feels better.

Eddy needs some cheering up. I will try to compile all the praises by RFF members for his work. Maybe it will help.

I second that. Yuri told me to send my FED-S Komandirski and lens to Jerry straight away, I had it back in no time and it is really smooth with a nice clean FED 50/2.0 Summar clone now.
 
I'm really sorry to hear that Eddy's health is poor - I empathize on a personal level. He is a great guy and has helped me with several repairs. He can turn a brick into a beautiful working camera, and did so routinely. The man should have been called "the Contax shutter whisperer." I wish him a speedy recovery - he will be in my prayers also.
 
I spoke with Jerry Sorin yesterday, and he told me that Eddy is still struggling with his health issues. He has lost the feeling in his hands, which of course makes delicate camera work out of the question. Jerry implied (but did not say explicitly) that Eddy has cancer...

Here's wishing and hoping that he makes a good recovery, and quickly.
