Hello,
My name is Sam. I have been reading this forum for about a year or so.Then I registered. I like it a lot. I wish it was a little less gear-centered, but you take the good with the bad.
I have read a few threads lately about CLA and camera repairs. I decided to start this thread since this is kind of the easiest way to share something.
I have been using Marty's Camera Repair in Queens, NY for all my cameras and lenses. He has been in business for about 25 years. The guy's name is Moni.
First, he CLA'd my Pentax H3. then he CLA'd my Kiev 4a, cleaned a few lenses. About a month ago, I bought Contax IIa that needed shutter service.
He did it too. That Contax became my favorite camera. Then he worked on my Pentax MX and MESuper.
Now, he has my Contax II, also for a shutter repair.
He gives free estimates, like all self-respecting camera shop would. So, camera can be mailed to him. He will contact you with the estimate. If you like it, he will fix it. If not, he will ship it back.
By the way, his prices are extremely reasonable. I think he should be very competitive with Fedka or Jerry Sorin.
His info is:
Marty's Camera Repair
71-25 Austin St.
Ste 203
Forest Hills, NY,11375
cameradoc1@yahoo.com.
P.S. I am not him, neither am I related to him. Just sharing the news

Thanks for the recommendation. I came across his name recently when I was searching the net. I have a Nikon 50mm f/1.4 with oil on the aperture blades that needs to be cleaned.

I forgot to put his phone number:
718-793-4666.
I think he really deserves a shot.

He does work on Leica bodies then? Just got an M6 that needs some care.

I was in his shop last week, and he was working on M3, someone wanted to sell, and brought it to him to adjust and check.
I think it is better to contact him with any questions. I think he fixes all kinds of mechanical and electronic cameras, including digital.

I emailed him and got a few quotes for camera repair. Price sounds promising. I will stop-by next week to check it out.

I don't believe he knows the 85/2 is external mount...anyhow, the sonnar looks quite clean. Much bigger and heavier than nikkor

He is working on Contax II with 50mm f/2 collapsible Sonnar and 85mm f/2 Sonnar you saw.

I also have 85mm f/2 Jupiter 9, that is much lighter due to alloy construction.I have never handled a Nikkor, unfortunately, but having Sonnar heavier helps with camera stability with slow shutter speeds.
As far as Moni goes, he is not Contax expert per se, he is just an honest repair guy.

yeah. my contax ii was shelf queen before I saw your thread. I didn't want to spend money fix the shutter. His quote was very reasonable. Though no guarantee he could fix it, I decide to give it a try.
I miss Eddy smolov so much...

Contax IIa, he cleaned for me, is my favorite camera to use now. It is very quiet and unobtrusive. At the time he was working on M3 for someone, and he let me handle it.
I don't think he should've
))
I would like one of those very much, but my budget doesn't allow new system for now.

What is wrong with your Contax II?
My Contax II, he is working on, had broken shutter ribbons and very dim rangefinder patch. He said, no problem.
He also has new selenium cells for old light meters, so I plan to revive a few I have.

I never met or used Eddy Smolov, but I have read a lot about him on the RF.
