"I suppose someone who was interested in buying it and then sending it to be upgraded (as it is a 'normal' M8) might purchase it and then send it for the saphire screen upgrade + other upgrades.
if the price was right of course. finding someone who would be interested in doing that would be fairly hard though i'd imagine.
750 Euro for sapphire screen, 1,320 for all upgrades and comes with a year's warranty."
No,it would not work, sapphire screen is only cover over the LCD and on my camera plastic cover is fine.It is LCD bellow that is cracked.

It might work, as the camera has to come apart for the sapphire LCD and the part price of the LCD cannot be too high. It would not incur extra labor costs. So 1320 for the upgrades, say 100 for the LCD and 80 for DHL, makes 1500. That is still 1000 under the price for a mint one, which is bound not to have a one year factory guaranty. So at a price of 500 to 750 it would make an attractive prposal.

He already got a price quote of $1300 for replacing the LCD, while Leica wants 750 EUR (ca. $1000) for installing the sapphire screen. So the difference seems to be at least $300 between the two instead of $100.
The proposition should probably be more at the $500 end of the spectrum.
What I'm interested in - is this actually a sales proposal on behalf of the original poster?

Yes - it just depends what the guaranty is worth to you I guess. And the fact that you get a camera that has been gone over by Leica CS, which is always a good thing.

The most I'd spend on this, without hesitation, would be around $700. I don't think I'll even send it in for repair. I'll use it like a film camera.

$500 if I would bother.
I do not read this as a sales proposal. I read it that the OP bought the camera, and is simply interested in who else would buy such a camera, and what they would pay.
If he got it for under $500, I am very jealous.

I would not since it would drive me nuts. An M8 with a usable display is already a pain in the A** compared to a film Leica

Not much "love" for M8 without LCD on RFF...
Not many people have used Digital Cameras without image displays built into them. Once you have, it is not a big deal to go without them.
As long as you are happy, the camera is used, what else matters?

It wouldn't be a problem if 100% of the necessary functions on the M8 was accessible without the LCD. A Rangefinder without LCD is one of the many "good" things the RD1 forum mentions often.

I would buy it at $800 maybe $1000.

But they aren't available. It's a by-product of the clean rangefinder design of the M8 that gets praised all the time.
The R-D1 has lots of extra wheels and dials and buttons. The only way it can be considered a rangefinder without an LCD is because you can turn it away from you if you absolutely can't help looking at the thing.

I have M8 black body with cracked LCD and silver body with working LCD.I wish sell one and I am not sure which one to keep.Really do not need to check each taken shot on LCD or to change any setting on camera other than ISO(can do without LCD..just).
So it looks that somebody will have a chance to own silver M8 with working LCD.

Keep you eye on Classifieds here on RFF.

No, I would not. I can't imagine getting something like an M8 and then needing to ship the camera off for an expensive, time-consuming repair. I would want it in hand, in working condition, from Day 1.

you misunderstand.
I was replying to someone elses post. Its not that people dont love an lcd-less digital rangefinder, its that the M8 is virtually unusable without a working LCD.
I know the rd1.. i shot with one way longer than my current digital M

I have taken abot 1000 on this M8 without LCD.Body is set on DNG,AUTO WB and I can change ISO.
Point I am making is we may not need as much adjustment on our camera as we are use to having. This may not be right camera for all of us but it is very usable non the less.So much so I am thinking that I will sell my fully functional M8 and keep the one without LCD.

If the price was lower than a mint Epson R-D1, I would consider one as a second body. As long as the settings are reasonable (it seems the one discussed is set at ISO 320 which is pretty good) or you can access them via USB (I have no idea if you can do that), the camera is entirely usable. Some of the flexibility is ruined because the camera relies on the LCD for too many settings, but you can always shoot manual. As an only M8 (or DRF body), I would consider one only for a really cheap price.
I don't think I would buy one to get it fixed. If it happened to my own camera, well that's a different story.
