What Cross Point Screw Driver Size for Repair?

Want to disassemble a Pentax PC35 AF... Oddly, I can't find a solid answer to this on line... and got seemingly conflicting answers (000, 00). Typical screw size for Japanese 80's-90's point and shooters and other electronics.

Also, if one knows where to procure this at a reasonable cost, t'would be most appreciated.

As far as Nikon and Contax/Yashica go, about 2/3 JIS 0 and 1/3 JIS 00, with maybe 10% odd sizes (JIS 1 and 000, plus some Philips and occasionally even odd screws matching no cross point standard I know).

No help on size, I'm afraid, but I'll second the recommendation of getting JIS screwdrivers - the difference between trying to grip with a Phillips and really gripping with a JIS is immense.

Depending on where you are in the world, I think I bought mine from a company called Moody Tools (they were a blank to get hold of from the UK). They came as a set, so probably a bit costly if you are just doing a P&S.

I use WIHA screwdrivers, Molybdan. Triple-zero and double-zero usually work. I have an assortment and try to find the closest fitting, try to cover most of the head. The WIHa screwdrivers have never stripped the screw or broken. Leanred that lesson on my Nikon SP where I stripped a screw (flathead) and had to carve a new slot with an exacto knife.

Here are a couple of supply houses for tools. I have used all of these companies in the past for both work and personal purchases, and they are all decent. As everyone has mentioned, get the correct driver- phillips, JIS and posidrive screwdrivers all have similar looking screwheads but very different drivers.

Stanley Supply Services (formerly Contact East, formerly Jensen Tools) has a huge range of miniature screwdrivers from most brands. You get what you pay for with screwdrivers (for the most part), and they have a very good selection. Some brands I like, that stanley carry: Wiha, Excelite, Moody. Jensen, their in-house brand, is also a good, and cheaper bet.

My favorite precision screwdrivers and bits are from a company called PB Swiss. They are pricey though. ( I use these at work- so I rely on them to make money and they are worth it for me).

MSC industrial supply and smallparts are two other tool suppliers that I have used and can recommend.

Just buy a set and you have them for life. They are all quality tools.

I have a set of WIHA Torx bits and they are great.My flatblade set is Starrett.I have a set of Craftsman Torx bits and the handles keep breaking off.I reglue them but I don't like them because of that.I talk about exchanging them with Sears and all they have to replace them are the same thing.I have a set of General screwdrivers,three phillips and two flatblades and I like them a lot.I don't think that I have ever needed the smallest phillps bit for anything.They are precision tools and I would recommend them to anyone.I keep the tips magnetized and they do a great job for me.
I am sure that there are better quality tools on the market and if I felt that I could do significantly better work than I can now with what I have I would buy them.Ron G

And don't forget, for Japanese cameras you need JIS type drivers - Philips type will foul the screw heads.
