Someone can get a good lens for cheap. All you have to do is put the 5 pieces back on the lens:

All the parts 5 parts that were taken apart and the screws will be sent. I'm very carful and organized when doing any disassembly. The aperture, glass elements, and lens cover have not been touch so all you have to do is get the focusing housing back together. My only intention was to clean the threads of the focusing mechanism and got in over my head. Also there is no camera repair store in town and dont shoot enough to deal with shipping. THanks

Putting it back together is easy, putting it back so it focuses accurately is near impossible without the right calibration equipment they use in the factory or a repair center.

Are there any tech's in the US that can do it? Or anywhere in general one could send it to get rebuilt....? Just curious.

I'd trust a tech to put it back together more so than myself, I just didn't know if there was someone who could/would do it?

I'm tempted just because I need a new front ring that says 'ULTRON etc' on it, as mine got ruined by the previous owner. Maybe it'll be easy to put together having a working one right next to it, as far as the focussing.

It's really quite easy. He didn't disassemble the helical so all one has to do is put it back together and measure the infinity focus correctly and ensure that it focuses wide open and up close. Should be no problem.

I had to take mine apart with a swiss army knife when I was out in New Mexico a few years ago. All the aperture blades had come out of their notches and it was rendered useless until repaired. The repair was really easy, the hardest part being the alignment and proper overlap of the aperture blades.

Someone with a small amount of skill is going to get a very nice lens at a very nice price.

I've stripped lenses down beyond this. I just hope the purchaser either has experience or practices on a cheaper lens before working on this one.

If I had the cash, I'd totally do this but it is bound to go too high for me.

If it gets too much higher, the purchaser should be someone who can service it themselves. I don't know what the lenses are going for now, but sending it out for repair probably wouldn't be cost effective (??).

Well, it's more like buying a car and getting it delivered flat-packed like an IKEA couch.

But yeah, "works perfectly" is a bit of a stretch.

Remember this old thread? Well, here is the lens - all put together and even adjusted to focus closer, down to about 0.7m. It was a fun project, as not all the parts were actually included - some screws were missing and I had to get them elsewhere. But after a few hour's work here is the lens:

Was a fun project that seems to have worked out 😉 Although, I guess seller tried to put it together some threads were a bit messed up and had to be fixed before lens' parts could actually fit together well and turn smooth.

Thanks! I can say one thing, based on this experience - dont open your lens if you not sure if you can put it back together. And if you try - dont force anything - things can break easily. I think I got lucky that seller didnt try too hard to put it back together, as no serious damage was done - at least nothing I couldnt fix. Just made it that much more frustrating. Yet, now this lens is nice and smooth, just shows paint loss - which gives it some character, I suppose. 😉

NIcely done! I'm glad someone here got the lens and was able to get it back together. I almost bid on it myself - it is a bit of consolation to know someone here landed it. 🙂
