If you’re in a quiet room try this out:
Hold your Leica M9 normally and give it a gentle shake side to side. Do you hear that tiny rattle noise as if there is something is loose inside? I thought it was the shutter button, or the frame-line switcher, but when I held everything that I thought could make the noise, I still heard it when gently shaken. It's coming from inside the top plate- somewhere near the viewfinder?
Mine’s sound like something is loose and I can’t tell if it’s normal.
Should I send it in to Leica? Does anyone else have this or is it just me- I'm going insane!?
What is it?

I'd guess it is the metal leaves of the shutter.

Yes there is a faint rattle. Does this mean I win and get to the next game level, or is there another task to complete in order to command the Black Orb of Leica Doom? Or do I win a voucher or something?
You'd better not ask questions like that next Friday.

Could it be the loose change left over from purchasing the camera?

Ha! One thing I have learned, debt makes no sound. Perhaps sometimes a faint groan.

Do you mean that when you buy a M9, there's actually some money LEFT somewhere ????
I thought Leitz was better than that at shaking money from customers

Film, the next evolution.
It's the sound of the loose screw you must have from spending that much on a camera

It's the audible shake warning. It sounds when the camera is shaken.

So, in fact, it's a warning against a too slow shuttertime ? Very smart and progressive ...
Stefan.
