Alfred Eisenstaedt's Leica M3-1000001

Couldn't they just have left it? If they care so much about his "lifelong contribution to photojournalism", well he made that with a proper camera, not with a gold shelf queen.

Make him a gold à-la-carte limited edition memorial MP à la Ralph Gibson if you insist, but at least leave the original alone.

just check "german tuning style" and you will understand.

You mean like what you want is this...

...and what you get is this?

:D

I don't see the point of this either. It made the gold one too fancy to use; while the dummy one couldn't be used at all. No, thanks.

Jeez, the guy probably had a ton of cameras (many of them Leica)... this is just one of them. He could afford to have a shelf queen. He wasn't some guy buying "user" Ms off of ebay or RFF.

I think you all missed the issue. It was plated for Eisenstadt, and presumably done either at his request or with his permission. Note that the original parts were returned to him as a dummy and if he didn't like the new look, he could have changed it back. Obviously, he didn't. Why? Probably because he had a number of M's and this one was put on the shelf for his own sentimental reasons.

There is no need to be critical of it any more than being critical of the super ugly pink VW Golf. Ever here the expression a face only a mother could love? I'm sure Eisenstadt loved his gold M. "Nuff said.

Man Darren, you's a fool. Just put black tape over your medals... why ruin a perfectly good vintage medal?

I always thought a gold Leica would be fun to use at fancy parties. Not that I get invited to fancy parties but if I did I'd use a gold Leica...
