Long scratch on entire roll of film

Hi, I just processed a roll of B&W film and discovered a very straight long scratch running down the entire roll. I'm just wondering can anyone tell me how this happened?
I developed it in one of those Paterson Super System 4 plastic tanks.

I don't think it was the camera because the last 2 rolls I processed from the camera were fine. These were processed in a different tank also.

Dust particle on the inside of the camera?
Or, check the reel it was loaded on..

A grain of something something on the outlet of the film canister itself.

I checked the reel, it seems fine. I'd say it happened when the film was in the camera alright, yeah hopefully it was just dirt stuck in the film canister? Thanks.

Immediately expose another roll in the same camera and develop just as you did before.

The existence / nonexistence of the scratch will tell you if you are trying to diagnose a continuing problem or one that came and went. That will tell you if you are looking for something like a burr on the pressure plate or a potential piece of grit on the light trap of the film.

Home rolled or commercially rolled film? I gave up spooling my own as I was always getting scratches such as you describe.

It was commercially rolled, fuji neopan 400. Going to put another roll through the camera so and develop it with the same tank and reel.

Did you check the inner camera for foreign matters? I once had my fil scratched by a tiny screw which came loose on the transport roll.

I about freaked when this happened to me once, and I blamed the power rewind of the little Olympus. However, it was some kind of junk on the film, wiped off with a Q tip and alcohol.

Yeah I had a good long look at the inside of the camera, cant see anything wrong there.

I usually get something similar when I scan my film (w/ a Canon 4400f I think) but when I look at the negatives or wet print them I see none of that.

I used my fingers to squeegee alright but I was wearing wet rubber gloves.

I just got a roll of tri-x that sratched right through. I wiped down the pressure plate, ran another roll and no problem. It was probably just a particle of dust or something that worked it's way out. I hope you're not squeegeeing your film though as it's unecessary. I you properly use photo-flo (my preference is low-foam LFN), it doesn't need to be touched -just hanged to dry.

I'd run another 1/4 roll through your camera, develop and make sure it's gone.

I usually dont squeegee, but I said i'd give it a try because I almost always get weird drying marks on my negs, maybe not using enough photo flo? Well I'm not going to squeegee anymore.

The reel isn't touching the film where it's getting scratched...
Either something in the camera (could be gone now) or the film canister...maybe a slight chance it got scratched when you ran your fingers down it...
I pull the film out of the Photo-Flo and just hang them to dry...I haven't had spotting where we live right now...water supply changes from one location to another...
Run another roll through and Good Luck...

Once I stopped finger squeeging my film and just made sure to use photo-flo, the quality of my negs went up in regards to scatches and drying marks. Composition and exposure is another story.

I pull the film out of the Photo-Flo and just hang them to dry...I haven't had spotting where we live right now...water supply changes from one location to another...
Run another roll through and Good Luck...
