How many Leicas models have you used?

M4 and IIIC. Still have both, but the IIIC is going for sale soon. The M4 was my first RF, and the first Leica I ever saw in person. I'm keeping that one until I die.

Listing the Leicas you have used is a painful reminder of the ones you have let slip through your fingers unfortunately!

My immaculate lllG with it's original unmarked ever ready case comes to mind here ... sold it because I was broke (as usual), should have sold a kidney instead! :p

I cannot imagine what this information means to you.

And I cannot imagine what you think that the information that you cannot imagine what the information of what Leica models RFFers have used means to us. But thank you for sharing none the less, very informative.

Personally, I've used and handled these Leica models, but not owned all of them:

II
IIIf RD / ST
X1
M3
CL
M4-P
M6
M8

Owned and used: A, III, IIIa, IIIb, IIIc, IIIf, IIIg, M2, M3, M4-P, MP, M8, M9

Used for more or less extended periods: II, M6ttl, M8.2

Handled but never put a film through: B, 250 (FF and GG), Standard, M1, M4, M4-2, CL, M5, M6, Nullserie copy, fake IIId

Among the Leicas I no longer have, the only two I'd like to have again are the A (a 1927 model, as far as I recall), purely as an example of the first Leica, and the II, because it's so pretty and for sentimental reasons (first Leica I ever used, around 42 years ago, belonged to a girl I was madly in love with -- even before she got the Leica).

Quite honestly, apart from wanting to keep the first Leica I owned (IIIa, which I have kept for sentimental reasons -- my only remaining screw-mount Leica) I'd be perfectly happy with 2x MP and 2x M9 (I'd need one more of each). I'm not particularly sentimentally attached to my M2 (except that it has a Rapidwinder) and I'd cheerfully sell the M4-P tomorrow. As it is, the M2 stands in for a second MP and the M8 stands in for a second M9.

Having owned or used most older Leicas, I genuinely don't agree that they are better than the current models. Yes, my M3s were wonderfully smooth, but the lack of a 35mm frame meant that I sold the last one long ago, and besides, I like metered cameras.

Cheers,

R.

still own them all.... my only regret...the ones I did not buy

I cannot imagine what this information means to you.

In my area there is nowhere to go to try out or test drive a Leica. So the first one I ever used I owned. Quite an investment for a deal like that. Plus I was curious if there was anybody out there that has used them all.

M4 and IIIC. Still have both, but the IIIC is going for sale soon. The M4 was my first RF, and the first Leica I ever saw in person. I'm keeping that one until I die.

One of the reasons I asked.... Many out there are in the same boat. To see one you have to buy one. But I am glad I did. I have owned four. Sold two and will never sell anymore.

There used to be two good camera stores in Bermuda in the 1960s, a few doors apart, and one of them usually had a screw-mount Leica or two in stock. Of course I couldn't afford them, at twenty quid or more a throw ($45+). Then a school friend had one, then my girlfriend wanted a reliable, versatile camera and on my advice she bought a II conversion, 23010, twenty quid. After a while she wanted it back so I had to buy my own, a IIIa, 229 589, thirty quid. A slippery slope since...

Until about 1990, of course, there used to be these marvellous things called camera shops. Now, I don't know if there'd be any camera store in a hundred mile radius with a Leica for sale. I'd probably have to go to Paris, 200 miles away. Though I can't really imagine buying any camera without having handled it, or one like it, before. Worth the trip to Paris!

Cheers,

R.

Is this not equally true for at least 90% of what is posted on internet forums? :(

Why the sad face? Enough useful information out there to read if you want, but thank god for couple of minutes (hours?) of uselessness now and then.

I've had a CL
3 M2's
An M6 'Wetzlar'
Now an M6 .58 TTL
Looking for a good deal on an .72 TTL... always looking for something it seems
