BFA or BSc?
hi all, i know it's a little similar to one other thread, but what i want to ask about is, has anyone modified their XA so it can take ASA1600 film and "ditch" the ASA25 setting? so much like "shifting" the setting from 25-800 to 50-1600?
or is this impossible to do? i think the latter range would suits me more, since i would still be able to use the +1.5 compensation to get the ASA25 setting..
it's just some general interest question, please don't flame me for this..

Yes, I had it done by an Olympus tech when I sent my jammed one in for a CLA (he did it at no extra charge). I was hoping for 2 stops so I could use ISO 3200, but he said that was beyond the tolerances of the meter.
I wound up selling it shortly thereafter to fund my Bessa, but it worked fine.

There are 2 cds cells in the XA. One drives the meter needle position, the other drives actual auto exposure. No problem setting the needle to be off 2 stops, trouble is the auto shutter speed can't be made reliable at minus 2 stops. Minus 1 stop, range 50-1600 is safer to do and i can do that for you if interested. John

hhmm, actually i really want to, but i am not sure whether there is anyone here in Singapore who can do that..
John, is it a complicated modification? Do you think any repairman will be able do that?
Actually i just want to push it up 1 stop, to 50-1600 range, because i don't foresee myself using 25 nor 3200 in future (well, i think..

Does conversion only work on the XA-2 or will it work on the XA and XA-4 as well?

Haha! agree, but i am too scared to open it up.. it's my only XA after all..
will ask my usual repairman here about it.. hopefully he'll be able to do it, and with friendly price, too!

Any competent repair person with calibrated exposure tester should be able to do it. John

One situation which would prevent adjusting your camera to minus 1 would be if camera adjustment is already as far minus as it can go. John
