Why is Leica so stupid about providing these logos? Seems silly and childish. As for buying them online for $79, anyone who pays that for a sticker should be taken out and shot in the interests of human evolution.

DAG's site says out of stock but he sometimes still has them in stock.
I ordered one a few months ago when it said out of stock on his site and he promptly mailed me one.

I read that the black dot is an internal problem amongst the other Leica companies. Beware to send your black dot M to NJ. They may confiscate the dot.

The problem is that Leica Camera is not the owner of the rights to the Leica logo - that is Leica Microsystems, and they lease the logo rights out to Leica Camera. And Leica Microsystems specifies that the background color of the logo must be red, no other color. Which ties Leica Camera's hands effectively. They got told off pretty sharply for using a black dot on the M8.2.
The Leitax ones are not expensive btw. 5 $ iirc.

It isn't like that at all. Leica DOES sell cameras with the black dot, so selling the dot to Leica owners is no different than a Toyota being made in versions with a silver logo or a gold logo. Go to the parts department at any Toyota dealer and they'll gladly sell you any of the logos used on Toyota cars; they don't even care if you actually own the car it originally came on, so long as you have money in hand to trade for the logo.

I just got one on my M6 from Sherry. She replace my red one while doing a CLA.
Maybe you can ask to buy it separately?

For those looking for other sources of Leica dots, I noticed that my Leica Mini II has an identical dot to my M6. These cameras can be found for less than $79. You would need to paint it black yourself.

Leica does not sell black dot cameras. They did so - once- and had plenty of trouble because of it. They are legally bound only to use the red dot, or something completely different.

Frankly, I wish Leica wold go back to "no dot." And take the big "M9" off the front of the camera.

One thing I like about the (new ) MP. They went back to the discreet script on the top of the camera, and nothing else. And that's the way I like my Leicas--unobtrusive

As did my LHSA M6 ttl and the Millennium M6 ttls before that model. The issue between Leica Camera and their parent company that JappV mentioned earlier took place after the M8.2 was released.

I think the black dot is quite attractive. I was recently quoted what I thought was an outrageous price from one online retailer. At more than say $20.00 the appeal drops off dramatically.

I bought a Leica Mini at a thrift shop for $5 - a few years ago. I'm not quite ready to rip the red dot off but it's there if I ever need it.
