Today on my way to the fitness studio I quite accidentally :D passed a few foto stores - and there it was: A beautiful OM-2N! I entered the store, looked through the viewfinder - it was mine a few seconds later. Also the 50/1,8 and the 28/2,8 and the 135/3,5 - everything at a very low price, looking almost like new and working very well apparently.

Am I happy! It's almost crazy though, as I have 4 Nikon SLRs and about 20 Nikon lenses, but I just needed that OM again. The OM-2N was my main camera for 21 years and I have more than 10000 slides I made with it.

Just for fun I compared the Oly to my M2 and F3. It is lighter and almost smaller than the M2. The F3 is heavier and bigger of course, but not that much bigger.

Here is the weight of all that stuff:
OM-2N with Zuiko 50/1,8: 710g
M2 with Summicron 50/2: 856g
F3 with AI-Nikkor 50/2: 980g

Lenses alone:
Zuiko 176g
Cron 286g (heaviest!)
Nikkor 223g

Congrats. Welcome back home! Let's face it. While Nikon makes very good cameras, they just don't have the same feel, refinement (and viewfinders) as OMs!

I have an extensive Nikon kit - five bodies and more than a dozen lenses - and a modest OM-1n with four lenses. Whenever I get desperate, I calculate how much I can sell the Nikons for, but I never even consider parting with the Oly! They are gems.

I really need to experience some of this Oly love. I dig the pictures I see from them. They seem about the most compact SLR around. hmm

I was gifted an(other) OM-1n with 50/1.8 miJ recently (ht to Jan!) ... like I need another one, but OM is not (just) about need. If I ever slim down my Olympus family, it will be for a damn good reason, like giving stuff to kids who love photography but can't afford good gear.

Welcome back, prodigal son.

So, what's your next Oly purchase then? ;)

Well, first I need one or two lense shades. And then... maybe the OM-4Ti again? I had one, but was not very lucky with it. I dropped it (including myself) first with a bicycle, then with a motorbike. After that it did not work very well any more.

Oh, but wait till you get tempted by the holy grail - The OM-3Ti.

I have ONLY three OM bodies (OM-2S, OM-3Ti, OM-4T), but have owned the OM-1md, OM-2md and OM-4 at one time or another. Each camera has its own distinct personality. But maybe the same can be said of the lenses too. The 35-80 F2.8 zoom, for example, is simply unreal.

I keep reading about Olympus Om-Devotion. That's the one brand i've never experienced.

So, really, how does an OM viewfinder compare to something like the Nikon FE2's or Contax Aria's?
