Where will you be carrying the camera while on the bicycle? (I'll assume bicycle, not motorcycle, which creates an extra level of vibration). I try to keep a camera bag on my body when biking so that I provide another layer of shock absorption; I'm going to 'float' over bumps for my own sake as much as possible.
And do you plan to carry the camera off the bicycle? A metal case in a knapsack, bag, or on a strap over the shoulder can be a problem. My experience with hard cases while roaming is that they are uncomfortable and unwieldy. For moving from site to site and setting up, they are great. But carrying around in the field, they are somewhat clunky.
I have a Lowepro Rezo 160, I think it is called. It holds an Autocord (or Yashica-Mat, or Rolleiflex) in its main compartment with some spare room. I've added some extra divider pads that I've collected for more padding and to have the camera sit snugly. One divider leaves a slot at one end for a lens hood and some filters on the other side. The camera strap adds a layer to the top.
A soft(er) case like this goes in and out of a knapsack much easier. If I am going to put a camera in a pannier on the bike itself, I usually wrap the bag in a sweater or such.
Well, a metal lunch pail might be cheap enough to give a go. But again, I find hard cases a bit clumsy to carry all the time.
