By saying this is a great image, I'm not suggesting that it's a great photo, and certainly not that I'm a great photographer (heaven forbid!)
In her book, "The Death and Life of Great American Cities", which I read (too) many decades ago, Jane Jacobs talked about the importance to the community of public spaces and their role in making a city great. I think she would have said that this photo is an example of what she meant. Look carefully at the diversity: age, gender, ethnicity; it's beautiful.
Every time I look at this image (taken in Washington Square Park, June 2010) I feel nostalgia about the city where I was born and raised.
