I bought the M-coder/D-Coder kit from Popflash. Tony mailed it the same day, and I have coded 6 lenses, 5 of them successfully. I ran into a problem with the 50mm version 3 Summicron. It has a screw right where one of the black marks should go. The screw won't take the marker ink. I think it's a non-problem, as I don't think a 50mm really needs coding anyhow.
Once coded, Aperture shows the focal length, although it also displays "unknown lens." (Edit: this applies to the remaining lenses. No info is shown for the 50 that I'm having trouble with.) It does not show the lens' maximum aperture, nor does it show "Summicron" or "Elmarit." With chipped Nikkor lenses, more of this kind of info is available.
I have already had an outing with the M8.2 sans lens coding, and saw no problems with the shots. I'm looking forward to seeing some improvement now that the lenses are coded. Improvement in what, I am not sure. I coded my 21 & 24mm Elmarit ASPH; 28mm Summicron; 35mm Summilux ASPH; 75mm Summicron; and of course the 50mm version 3, which the M8.2 is not able to recognize.
I may code the 90/2.8 Elmarit and tele-Elmarit, and 75 Summilux, later. Or not. 75 and 90 are a bit long for use on the M8/M8.2.
