Nice but.

There's something wrong about it. The script is too thick. And the paint is too nice compared to the body (Vulcanite) ...
Maybe it's been touched up or restored. :(

I start having my doubts if that "L" seal has any meaning ...

A nice looking camera but I can not find any explanation why the back-door looks close to perfect and the frame around it has severe paint loss.

Notice the brassing on the edge of the wind and rewind levers, and on the outside (rather than inside) of the strap lugs? How about on the sync ports? Oh yeah, that screams repaint. Wonder if it was black to start with, or just refinished? Anybody know the serial numbers on black cameras?

I'm no expert, but that was obviously repainted. No 50/60-year-old camera with any amount of brassing or vulcanite chips is going to have bright red and yellow paint on it. The top plate looks noticeably thicker and less pointy where it should be.

What exactly is the difference between an original Leica MP and a Leica M2. Mine looks exactly like that one minus the black paint and button rewind.. Just the rarity?

Do you have any idea of how much 20gr black paint costs? Hmmm? ;)

a couple more suspicious things-
-the rewind lever should be the tall one the old M3s had. I think.
-BP summicrons had red lettering, not yellow... I think.

The L seal is the only thing that doesn't look suspicious to me....

It is at least a bad repaint and at worst a total fake.

Mooge, I'm with you. Every black paint rigid 50 I've ever seen had white markings everywhere except the foot scale which is red.

it was sold by leicashop.com some time ago, I even got picture from their site

it was much cheaper, iirc it was repainetd in 70s and then put on a shelf.

Can't imagine anyone buying this over eBay... If I was a real collector I'd rather buy an air ticket to view the item in person....

But yes too many dubious points which points to a repaint.
