How to get a Summilux 50mm F1.4 ASPH regular price?

Hi,
I am a Leica newbie, and I am very curious about the situation where Leica shops do not have most desirable Leica lens in stock.

For example, I thought the Summilux 50mm ASPH cost a bomb, seeing used lens asking for $5K, then I realized that the US MSRP for the lens is $3695. So how can I order the lens and pay US MSRP instead of the black-market price? I am in absolute no hurry for the lens.

Order one from a Leica dealer and wait. Think of the difference between MSRP and market as an 'impatience premium.'

Until they're commonly available, a dealer can charge whatever they want. Remember it's MSuggestedRP not required.

I was on a couple of waiting lists with a couple of camera stores. I anticipated that the wait would be long. I found it on-line at on store and by time I checked out the item was out of inventory. I ordered it on-line at another store and thought I was successful but the next day the email came and said it was put in inventory by mistake and that they had a waiting list of 10 people ahead of me.

Then on the third try while browsing a site a 50/1.4 ASPH did appear in inventory that was not there a few minutes before, I selected and immediately checked out. It was pure luck but it did happen.

BTW, I did pay a premium price to pick up a used 35/1.4 ASPH along the way.

Time and Patience.

Call Reddotcamera - very respectable Leica retailer in UK. Their waiting time now is around 6-8 weeks. They'll ask 10% deposit. If you don't want to put any deposit then try Robert White (UK) - will take between 6-9 months though.

For that price, you can fly to Hong Kong and buy in person from a reputable dealer, and then back and still have money to spare with your $8k.
