There are differences as to how skins may get stuck in page rendering if the server is slow to deliver some elements - there are skins with high backward dependence within a pages as well as some that can render top down right from the start.
True, but that does not account for the original skin continuing to be fast after flushing the local cache.
Really, I'm not having any trouble any more now, after just changing the skin, flushing the cache and changing it back again to my preferred skin.
Maybe the skin files in my cache had some tapatalk aspect to them, that I have gotten rid of now?
Anyone else try this and find significant improvement yet?
Just out of curiosity, have you tried flushing the database query caches ?
Yeap. The database is doing ok now, with minimal if not any temp tables to disk. All indicies were rebuilt last week and tables optimized.
By the way, here is my stats for this thread
Page Generation 0.22508 seconds
Keep in mind that backups take place at 2 am CST which is 9 am for mist in Europe. The system will come to a screeching halt during that backup.

Unlikely. These days "servers" generally are virtual to the point that the "hard drive" does not exist physically, but is some quota on a raid array or the cloud. If performance degrades nonetheless due to space issues the entire branch of the hosting provider's operations is oversold - usually a clear sign that the provider is heading towards a bad end, and should better be switched...
I think that depends on whether you are paying for a dedicated server or not.
But you may be correct and it could be the cloud causing problems except it was the installation of tapatalk that started the problem. That could have been coincidence. The only people who can really know are the administrators and they don't.

2) back alley got much faster performance after switching his skin to
VBP Graphite xpand -- try it.

I dont wish to be Mr "picky pants" but I have been having trouble with an unrelated issue.
I have been trying to execute a search on the following search term ; "Voigtlander Ultron lens review 28mm f2 " but every time I try the server gives a message something like the following "The minimum length of a search term is 3 words. Try again with a longer string"
I have tried multiple iterations of this term. To make matters worse every time it then makes you wait 30 seconds before trying again. Becomes a tad vexing after trying it a dozen times in multiple different ways. As there are clearly more than 3 words in this string (no matter how you slice and dice it) there is clearly something wrong with the middleware and or the business rules. I tried posting separately on the issue but perhaps my wording was a tad strong as the post seems to have disappeared without trace.
Anyone else having this issue or have any ideas on how to rectify it.

Instead of your message, I get "The search term you specified (f2) is under the minimum word length (3) and therefore will not be found. Please make this term longer.", which seems to make it pretty clear what the problem is.
That said, RFF search is worthless, as illustrated by the fact that you can't search for terms such as "f2" or "M9". Use Google search instead, appending "site:rangefinderforum.com" to your queries.

Its not just picture intensive pages. This page took 30s to load! And its not on my end either. I access RFF from home on three different units, via 3G on a mobil unit, and at works on a unit not common to those at home. All are diabolically slow.
EDIT: And all of a sudden its fine, but for how long? I use whatever skin is standard, I've never changed it. (The graphite grey/black background).

My message was paraphrasing and is in all essentials identical to your verbatim one. Leaving that aside what you say is true except for an obvious problem - the search string as I stated it (see my post) clearly has what I would regard as at least 4 words i.e. "Voigtlander Ultron lens review" even leaving aside the other terms like "F2" that it seems to find objectionable. (These never the less seem to be extremely odd terms to exclude from a search function on a forum that is about nothing but lenses, f stops, focal lengths and M this that or the others.)
You could not pick a better group of terms to outlaw if you wanted to screw up the search function.
So I concur with your conclusion - RFFs search function is worthless.

More often than not in the last week or so I have just opened another window and surfed somewhere else while RFF has loaded and got over its tantrums. Its very frustrating trying to post anything because its so hit and miss if it will all lock up. I tried a longer response to a question the other night and lost it all when RFF ground to a halt. Short and sweet from now on until its cured.

The best camera is one that still works!
Performance today is horrible ... the gallery in particular is really frustrating! :bang:

No problems here in Korea--where the local (misinformed) population proclaims, "It's the world's best Internet" (when it works).

Absolutely no problem in Japan either ... (at least not close to Tokyo)
