Yes, a honest 800ISO. Absolutely no problem on the NEX. In fact I shot a few birthday snaps with the kit lens at 3200 (!), and these are not only usable, they are downright good.

great photo! I never thought of the DR as a great lens for the NEX as it had always required goggles on other cameras, or didn't work on some like the M8. Wow!

It doesn't need goggles for regular use, only for the near focusing range. The near focusing range of the DR does also work, but you indeed have to mount the goggles, which looks really weird on the NEX 😀
I chose the NEX-3 over the 5 because they are basically identical. The NEX-5 has a metal body and a more sophisticated video codec (which according to DPreview doesn't really deliver any higher video quality but eats much more memory). So the 100E I saved by buying the -3 I put towards the M and F adapters.
And yet another great thing: The NEX + the F adapter will mount and meter with ANY Nikon F lens. Non-Ai, Ai, AF, DX, G lenses, they all work.
Sure,the NEX-3 doesn't have the brick like build quality of an M, and the user interface, though highy customizable, takes some getting used to. Also the crop factor is (still) an issue. But it's very hard not to be impressed by the sheer picture quality and technology you get for the price.

Actually the Nex 5 is only a partial alloy body and it costs more. For the purposes of using legacy lenses they are identical and oh did I say the NEX 3 is less expensive?

I also chose the 3 instead of the 5, because of the price and because its somewhat bigger (if you can use that word here) body fits in hands better.

I was too cheap to get the kit zoom for an extra $100 as it's slow, and after trying it at Costco, it's sort of flimy, a rubber thing protrudes as it extends.
Anyways, I've seen some nice photos from the kit zoom, so if I were buying again, I'd probably go for that, as well as the mandatory 16mm prime.

Same Here. Wife and I are just back from BestBuy, I played for quite a while with the Nex-3 and the zoom, and compared it directly to the Olympus EP. I think I still prefer the Nex-3, based on all of that.

I went with the NEX-3 because my hands are too big to comfortably hold the NEX-5.. There's no place for my fingers to go. The NEX-3 grip is a little flatter and wider.

The kit zoom is sort of ok for general use, but is no match for your established collection of Leica, VC and Nikon primes. I am most comfortable with a 28mm wide angle, so I use the kit lens at its 18mm setting for that. There is no comparable prime in that category. Yes, the Zeiss 18mm is wonderful but a tad expensive.
So Cosina, would you consider making DX primes in 18 (28), 28 (42) and 60 (90) mm focal lengths? That's my preferred combo I can cover 95% of all my photography with. And they could be made for all DX / APS-C systems out there...

Oh, I am gobsmacked -- I own way too many cameras and have been able to "talk myself out of" buying an NEX up until this moment. I have never been thrilled with the reports of the older Leica lenses on the Panasonic GH1/GF1 cameras.
I have my late father's M3 with the DR Summacron 50 f2 and a Summaron 35 f2.8, both goggled. They don't see tons of use because I don't shoot 35mm very often.
Quick -- someone convince me it's not worth it. Uh, and which adapter are you using?
Just this AM, was teasing my better half that I hadn't gone down to B&H in awhile. ARGH.
