I finally caved in and bought a smartphone last week (Samsung Galaxy S2). I realize it's pretty handy having a digital camera in my pocket at all times. However, finding a decent camera app has proven more difficult than I expected... I'd be fine with the built-in camera app - if it didn't have that horrible fake shutter sound (which can't be turned off).
Any recommendations on what camera app to use on an Android phone? Wouldn't mind paying a few bucks for something decent - all the free ones I've tried so far have been terrible in various ways.

Thanks! Tried the Vignette demo and the effects were neat, but if this is the best third-party camera app, then... well, there's clearly some market potential here for an alternative 
Ugly, clumsy UI and slower than the built-in app. But it will have to do for the moment.
And it didn't silence the camera on its own, but it seems like that was more of an Android issue. I ended up rooting the phone and renaming the sound files (also removed the horrible 'battery fully charged' noise, among other things).

Check in the settings some where you can turn off the shutter sound. I have the first Galaxy S and with mine I can turn off the shutter (but I don't as I like some kind of clue as to whether it has fired). Personally I think many of the Android apps are not very good. The biggest disappointment for me was no Amplitube or Peavey revalver. I really wanted to plug my guitar into my gallaxy (like the iPhone users can) but so far there are no apps. On a positive note darkroom timer is just great.
Now I wonder if there would be a way to contact print from the phone by placing B&W paper on the screen, that would be a great app for making fun small prints.

Vignette (and others) did have the option to disable sound, but it had no effect. As I said, I then rooted the phone and just renamed the sound files. It didn't get rid of the focus sound in the standard app though, as that sound is apparently in the actual app file somewhere... anyway, I then replaced the standard ROM with Lite'ning rom. Very easy with Samsung's Odin tool, and now I have a totally silent camera at last.
Contact printing - interesting! I'll definitely experiment with that in the darkroom when I get the chance.

I tried some app called Little Camera which was pretty fun and had a lot of effects and stuff you can add to the picture.
