3850 miles (6160 km) on a 1978 BMW R100Rs in 19 days, not all of them in the saddle.

Next, Arles. Will reply to PMs, etc., tomorrow (insh'Allah). Who else will be in Arles?

Cheers,

R.

In twenty hours no-one has replied?! Well, it was during the night and a workday I suppose.

I'll be staying on the camping again, Sunday to Sunday, so I hope the weather is as good as last year. My camping neighbour from last year (from the excellent Photofusion centre in Brixton) will also be in Arles - but, I suspect, not staying in a tent!

BTW, how many km has your BMW done now?!

I hope you had time to visit Estonian islands on your visit. Lovely scenes over there. I spent a weekend in Kuressaare and aroundings just a few weeks ago and will go back to Hiiumaa, Saaremaa and especially Mühu island for the last part of July.

Roger, looks like this might be my year! I have a couple of prints being shown as part of the Galerie Huit Open Salon and some time to head on over. At this late stage, do you have any recommendations for accommodation on a fairly tight budget? Will I need to stay out of town? I'll do the usual internet search but as a man who knows the area so well, if you have pointers that would be a great help. I hope to make it down for somewhere between 4 and 7 days. It looks like there is a stupefying amount on and I am looking forward to the wine/beer/food too :)

Sad that I missed you in Estonia, I am 600 km away but it would worth the drive to meet you Roger... May be the next time you are around Baltic States :D

Dear Martin,

Well, I've changed speedometers twice, but it's well over over 140,000 miles = 225,000 to 250,000 km.

Dinner on Monday? Dutch, of course (or if that's an English expression, each one pays his own). Same applies to anyone else interested. Barring mishap, we'll be outside the Voltaire at six-ish Monday evening.

Look forward to seeing you again. Dinner probably at the tapas bar at the other end off the block (outwards from the square). Bring your Photofusion chum too: I think I met her last year, if it's the girl I'm thinking of.

Cheers,

R.

Dear Mablo,

Unfortunately not. We were running out of time and needed to renew a bald rear tyre in Paarnu. But I must say, of the Baltic States, I liked Estonia most.

Wish I could go. It always sounds so interesting. Besides, I have never seen Europe, and likely never will. My wife spent some time in Germany about 7 years ago and hated the weather something awful. But who knows, my son-in-law likes to go there sometimes.

The Rencontres website is good at organizing accommodation at short notice and even 'out of town' ain't usually very far. Try the Hotel Voltaire first (Google 'em) as they may still have a room. You can also leave messages for Frances and me at reception (the bar...). See you Monday 3 (see above)? Hope so!

And congratulations on the Galerie Huit Open Salon: NICE venue!

Cheers,

Wow! the views for this thread in a 24-hour period is incredible, and the posts-to-views ratio very low.

Dear Ray,

Personally I doubt the 11,000 views.

Remember: a computer can make the same number of mistakes in 5 minutes as would take 100 skilled operators 100 years to make...

Hi,

We'll be in Arles from Sunday to Friday. We'll be in an hotel this year. The girls can use the car for sightseeing while I can walk in Arles.
When and where do we meet?

Cheers,

Michiel Fokkema

it's well over over 140,000 miles = 225,000 to 250,000 km.
That's more than my total for all three bikes - and most likely (I hope) your km were more interesting too!

My transport will be, again, TGV most of the way with an ordinary train to start and a bus for the last bit. Enjoy the trip to Place Voltaire.

If I have any contact with the camping neighbour from last year before the Monday evening, I will certainly pass-on your kind invitation :)

Would the meet up be on Mon 04th July - the opening?

Yes, Galerie Huit looks absolutely incredible.... quite unlike any gallery I have ever seen!

I hope to be in Arles from Sunday, and if you have room for an old 'un, I'd like to join you all. I have accomodation in Nimes, but if the Arles camp site is closer, that may be a better alternative. Is it within walking distance of the centre? Don't like to drive too far after sampling the vin rouge.

Yikes, finding hotels at this (late) stage seems all but impossible unless one stays 7+ miles out. My searches keep bringin up the same results unless I want to pay very high spa type prices!

Any recommendations for a good campsite with tents provided that is a reasonable stumbling distance from town (or even in town)?

Auldbob (see you there) + Turtle: contact MartinP, as I think that's where he stayed, and he's camping. There's certainly at least one camp site about 2 km from the centre, and quite handy for the Ateliers.

As far as I recall -- it's been a good few years now -- it's actually a quick, not-very-expensive train ride between Arles and Avignon, and the trains run late. The same might be true for Nimes: sorry, dunno.

Do try e-mailing Corinne and Jean-Pierre at the Hotel Voltaire: Levoltaire13@aol.com, or call +33 (0) 4 90 96 49 18, but neither speaks much English. They've been known (occasionally) to have a room at very short notice.

Cheers,

R.
