Pentax Q System

If I'm honest, this has to be one of the ugliest camera's I've ever seen. It almost looks like it's made of lego pieces or something.
It does look interesting, but with a tiny tiny sensor, 'toy' lenses and a price tag above current m4/3 cameras what's more interesting to me is wtf they were thinking when they designed this thing... If (with the 50mm lens) it was priced under $500 it would be a much more interesting little camera.

One things for sure though - it's absolutely tiny!

Yep. Nice idea, overpriced and maybe a few years late.

Call me when I can get the entire system for $500, including lenses.

Adorama is already accepting pre-orders at $799... too steep for the street (price).

As a lifelong Pentax user I have to say that I find this thing intriguing but for me I'm afraid it's just too small...just a very expensive P&S. Still, Pentax seem to have a knack for making "gimmicky" things work so I think the Q will work for them--they'll probably sell a ton of them in Japan.

If they made something about 50% larger with an APS-C sensor, a new line of lenses and an adapter for K-mount lenses I'd be all over it...

I wonder if those 8mm movie lenses with tiny focal length can be used to cover the tiny sensor size in this camera...

Pentax better have something cool up their sleeves with this new system.

LOL! One of my first thoughts about this too. Even a c-mount might be cool.

The first thing I would do if I got one of these would be to open the flash and break it off.

It would save me the trouble of being upset when it gets torn off later...

FWIW, there's another mirrorless system from Pentax coming later in the year has has native K mount. This one will obviously be more for enthusiasts...

Face it - every camera is designed for a niche market - and the readers of this forum are not the niche this camera will be targeted at. Hopefully the sales of this fun little camera in the Japanese market will help to improve the company's bottom line, and fund development of their SLR cameras and the new designs Gavin refers to above.

I will most likely buy one to use for fun... but I gotta find it for a few hundred lower than $800.

I'm wondering when the clear model is coming...

It is interesting that Pentax introduced the 110 when 110 film was in decline...and now the Q when sensors of this size are probably in decline.

In lens shutter

In lens shutter

These use in lens leaf shutters, so you'll have to get one of those for your reflex lens. That'll be an interesting DIY project!!!

I would like to adapt my Nikkor 500mm reflex onto it. EFV will then be 2850mm mega-telephoto. :D
