first Bessa R - proper hipster strap?

shoelaces. through strap lug, tie knot. bonus hipster cred if they're highlighter colours. buy a pair at walmart for the irony.

and afraid to use it?

puh-lease.

enjoy.;)

It is good style to give photo credits when using others photographs.

You are all sooo wrong. You see, this is a trick question!

No hipster would use a camera made in Japan with interchangeable lenses... it's not a Holga or a Lomo.

If it were, then the proper strap is a $75, hand-made braided mess made from the yak hair off of a Fed 2 package fresh from Ukraine. A small portion of the proceeds must go to a group of eco-terrorists attacking missionaries trying to prevent malaria with pesticides in sub-Saharan Africa, with the bulk of the funding going, through several subsidiaries, to Haliburton and Dick Cheney's next heart, this time from a Time Lord :).

Now, since it's a Bessa, a Domke Gripper 1" is appropriate. Get a forest green or an olive one.

Well done, sir!

Thanks for the suggestions, those are too pricey, I think I will either use no strap, a gordy which I have, the existing one, or a domke gripper or leica nylon which I already have.

My vote is with the Domke gripper. I use the narrow 1" version with my Kiev and could not be more happy. Comfortable, good grip and classy.

Steve

(...have vintage Pentax Spotmatic thin leather straps on the Canon P and Zorki-4K and Zhou wrist strap on the FED-2, but the Domke is my fav...)

If not a Holga or a Lomo, then a Brownie or Argus. FSU rangefinders are also hip, with extra credit given for FED-5 or Kiev-5.

Wow! Judging by the questions asked you fail at being a hipster and being a photographer. I would suggest you just stop trying.

The Kiev-5 gets an extra hipness bonus because it is so rare. Other hipster-worthy FSU rangefinders:

Should I put black tape over the Bessa R logo?

No, you should put one of the following over the Bessa R logo:

And don't forget to put your Bessa R in a transparent plastic bag when you carry it around with no film in it - that way others will be able to see its hipness, without risking cosmetic external damage to your precious camera.
