Dear Mike,
Well, my wife's a classic that can't be improved upon. Perhaps you should suggest to your wife that this is not always an undesirable viewpoint. Or would she prefer that you traded her in on a newer model?
Cheers,
R.
Excellent suggestion, Roger - we're aligned. I believe after these many years, the risk of being traded is likely greater on my side ...

Packing, posing, and cameras that followed me home:
On the return trip today, I got rained on twice and got soaked, but the second half of the trip was sunny so I dried out by the time I was home.
Camera finds were a Contax 139 with 35-70 Yashica lens and 50 f2 Yashica lens for $40 from Kijiji Kingston, Argus Cosina 35 for $2 from a yard sale, and Olympus Inf. Stylus for $2 from a thrift shop.

Seen along the way:
Funny thing is, after the thought put into packing what gear, I took no pictures with the OM's, but am almost done the first roll through the new Contax. (These are all digi pics.) Goes to show you to stay flexible and go with the flow.

How cool is that...before, during and wrapping up with roadkill!

There was also a dead dear at the side of the road but I couldn't bring myself to stop and photograph it.
This stuff was $3 at the thrift store. (I selected these interesting/useful items out of a bin.) The item on top of the 4x5 film holder is a slide and neg viewer.

Everytime I pack for a roadtrip, I enjoy the process almost as the roadtrip itself!
Now, when packing for a motorcycle roadtrip, it just doesn't get any more fun. Decide what to take; where to stash it; re-decide; re-stash, do it all over again tomorrow after picking up something I forgot; re-organize again...
All the while anticipating the trip!
Have a good one, Frank! Wish I was riding along with ya!
I'm going on a backpacking trip in 1.5 weeks. I made a trial packing tonight - same problem, where to stash it, re-decide ... etc. You described the process quite well, except for weighing the pack!
