There was mention on NBC news in Washington DC, about a photographer who photographs Metro riders, and posts his photos on the web. I guess maybe ipods aren't real cameras?

Just so long as he's not eating on a train—that's a capital offense. (But I'm pretty okay with this.)

LOL, or a capitol offense? I still see it from time to time. I just wondered what would happen if someone used an obvious camera (not a tourist with a digital P&S)?

Yes, Congress is in recess; they're now back home f#$%ing things up, you know, for a change of pace.

Its not like there are other things to talk about in this world.
The world is falling apart and they are worried about what one person does with their iPhone?

I walked around on and off the metro for a week with a mamiya 7. No one gave me a second look except when they thought they were in my way taking a shot of a train.

Well, I'm going there next week on business. We'll see how they react to an M8. Went about 18 months ago and no one gave me a second look. I like trains, ride Amtrak and never know what to expect. Ain't been arrested yet but have been questioned and stopped.

I want my own article about taking photos in the metro. I've been doing it for years.

Check out Mike Hicks Metro shots as well:

Congrats to DCMetroPeople for making the news though. He's doing nothing wrong.

Technically, non-commercial photography is fine (except for the Pentagon station which is covered by DoD restrictions), but there have been instances where Metro employees have objected to photography on vague security grounds, just like overzealous security guards & police @ other other locations in DC.
Unless they've been amended recently, section 100.8(a)(2) of Metro's own regulations (http://www.wmata.com/about_metro/docs/UseRegulations.pdf) permit personal photography: "Still photography that does not require a tripod, special lighting, film crews, models, impair the normal ingress/egress or operation of WMATA services and can be accomplished by a hand held camera by one person is not regulated."
Commercial filming is another matter (http://www.wmata.com/about_metro/media_relations/filming_details.cfm).

I've taken some shots on the Metro....
A little juxtaposition
A little propaganda...
and a little architecture...
No one ever looked at me sideways.
