Hey everyone,
First time poster, long time lurker.. Just wanted to know if any of my fellow G2 users could comment on the drive mode dial. (The one on the left side with the S, Cl, Ch etc) Is this dial fitted loose on your camera? Mine turns very easy and it constantly goes out of the S position. The clicks for each position are present, but it seems way too loose. Does it help to tighten the screw with the two dots? I don't have the correct tool and I'm having a hard time finding one too.. There's a guy on eBay who sells one for the Leica M3 with three different heads, but I'm not sure if it fits..

Just to compare, the dial for shutter speed and exposure comp. are nice and tight. Does your differ from these?

I hate these small things that seem to be wrong with everything I own.. Why can't it all just be perfect..

Checking my G2 the dial you refer to is a tight fit i.e. stays on the selected mode without any movement as does the shutter/exposure dial.

Not sure about tightening screws but worth a try I guess. Watchmaker surely would have a suitable tool? If all fails I'd simply tape it as I never use any mode other than "S".

Good luck

Thank you for confirming. I had a feeling this might be the case. It would be very strange for a camera of this quality to have a dial be that loose.

I'd be happy if anyone else who has had the same problem share how they were able to fix it.

Thanks!

I've had about five different G2s and that dial was always very secure and required effort to turn. Not 'force,' just a conscious effort. I never felt a threat of it being changed accidentally.

Not exactly the same situation, but the focus wheel on my G1 was loose. A $50 repair at a nearby shop made it work like new. I'm pretty sure you won't need tech specialized in Contax to set your dial right. Probably a 10 minute job with a screwdriver and possibly a shim of sorts to increase friction.

Thanks guys, all very helpful!
I'm pretty sure it's just a matter of tightening the screw. Problem is, I don't have the tool, and I'm not sure who does.. I looked up a Contax repair guy here in Norway (the only Contax repair guy here in Norway :)) and I'll have him have a look at it.

Thanks again guys!

Just to follow up on this..
I delivered my G2 for "repair" two weeks ago, under the assumption that it was just a matter of tightening a screw.
Today I got an email that stated that my "repair" was done and the camera could be picked up.

Total price for tightening a screw: $168

Ladies and gents, welcome to Norway.

Edit: Just to clarify, he did actually just tighten a screw, but to get to the screw he had to "open" the camera and get underneath a printcard..
If these are the current service prices in Norway I'm def. going into the screwtightening business :)
